Question: what do these agents really do for the game besides provide intel at no expense?

If you had to grind for the standings to use one I feel sorry for you, you sad person. Guys like me achieved the standings by proxy of doing other activities that all built up.

I don't personally use locator agents but I used to while doing wardecs and I see them frequently used for the task of finding people in lieu of actually undocking and scouting for the target. If CCPs recent efforts to make EVE feel big again are to be completely rounded off, then locator agents need to be dismissed from duty to add some real value to living in space as a fugitive or person of interest.

I'll state this in the clearest of terms: locator agents provide YOU with convenience. If the target is valuable enough to hunt down and kill then you will still go looking for him/her. Locator agents should at best provide a constellation level of intel and not the precise location of an individual. Assuming they're still around when the dust settles.

You'll have to refresh my memory on how one increases standings other than missions.

Ditto, If there was another way to grind standings for locater agents, please let me know, I'd rather not do missions if at all possible.

Locator agents have been part of eve for years, get over it.

What did your mission running alt lose out of curiosity?

It's not at no expense.
One has to grind missions standings for them,
which for a normal human being is kind of a horrible thing to do.

Furthermore ... wrong subforum.

This belongs into the grave of F&I.

Station tattle-tales. If we could walk around in stations, and had a bar, then we could just bribe the bar tender,
or beat him up if he doesn't rat somebody out. How like real life this all becomes, eventually. Or, was that a movie?

Paradise is like where you are right now, only much, much better.

You aren't thinking big enough. Share missions, loot and salvage. You get half the standings increase and boost their income substantially. Do this for 2-3 mission runners simultaneously and you'll be suprised how quickly you can make a mint and the required standings.

But that's not a new trick.

There are other ways too.

Locator Agent: You pay them, they tell you where a character is, 5 minutes later you pay them again, they tell you that guy you just upset on the forum is 5 jumps closer. How exactly do you find that information from scouting ?

words words words
A simple "you can't" would have sufficed.

change them so the agent won't tell you the target's location, but the number of jumps he's away Twisted

What exactly is the point of this thread aside from OP bragging about having better pokemon or some ****, I couldn't follow?

I just undocked for the first time and someone challenged me to a duel. Wat do?

Its too easy to find people when you don't have to look through 1000s of systems

I agree.

Instead of the broken mechanic,
CasualyCausedPanic should tripple the amount of locator agents
and implement your idea.

That way they would tripple the amount of alts
and people would start learning trigonometry to triangulate the position of a capsuleer.

Forget locator agents.

I've found that if you just ask people nicely, they'll be more than happy to tell you where they are.
