I use my phone to browse the forums with Opera mini, a great browser for mobiles but it really doesn't like drop down menus for some reason, so can we please keep the search function as it is.

Soooo any word yet on fixing the biography formatting bug? You know the one where looking at a bio displays giant letters (in my case they always show up light blue.)

Came looking for "We're going to make it possible/easy to see updated posts and threads". Left disappointed. Major pain point of EVE forums not mentioned, much less addressed.

Major pain point for you. Being able to read the forums at all will make life easier for more people than simpler features like "where was I up to in this thread" Big smile

Does "next relevant" mean the next one of either of these, or the next one of the type I clicked?

I'd prefer the former.

The scripts on forums gold were really useful (while it worked) especially the no-nom feature and being able to jump to the last unread post.

while it worked? still working great for me.

Can be done with forumgold too, but would be awesome.

Tapatalk? It would fix all my problems.

Aside from this my two biggest wishes are 1) notification links to take me to the first unread post, 2) see who a post author is without having to scroll left.

On the mobile (the only way I view forums) I zoom in to the post column and can't then see the far left column with character names and portraits. Adding the character name next to the report flag or time posted would be great. At the moment it is good if someone has edited their post because you can see their name where it says "Edited by:".

Nailed it. Tapatalk support would be stellar. AS would a true mobile version (which sounds like what they're doing).

I'm right behind you

Some great changes in there, especially with regard to the banners on CSM, ISD, etc... avatars. What I would love to see implemented is a previous DEV, CSM, ISD, etc... post button!

I've never really understood the reasoning behind developing your own custom forum software (or trying to patch up some stone age version of what looks to be... phpbb?) when there are plenty of fully functional forum softwares available. I can't imagine developing and maintaining a custom forum is in any way cheaper or easier than using a pre-existing product. Writing plugins and custom code to hook a forum into EVE Online for crucial functionality is infinitely easier than writing the entire forum yourself to do what you want.

Why do you always insist on doing things the hard way, CCP?

Making the forums look nicer on more devices isn't as critical as making sure that players feel like CCP is always actually reading the posts by players, esp. comments on devblogs. Sure, CCP can't fix or address everything, but players should feel that somone at CCP is reading what they made effort to write.

Typically, players feel that CCP devs only read posts for the first day or so (a week at most) after the devblog went up, and pick/choose a limited number of posts to which to read/respond, completely ignoring the rest. This impression creates bad feelings from players towards CCP, esp. since it is probably not true.

Unfortunately, CCP devs do not post as frequently as required, justifiably arguing that spending all day responding to forum posts means less time doing actual work - design, coding, debugging, whatever. Thus, relying on only the posted replies by CCP devs, as feedback for players to know if their posts are being read, is not sufffcient.

With this in mind, I'd like to suggest adding the following features:

1) Add seperate columns on the topic pages which track the number of "CCP Replies" and "CCP Views" - which, ofc, should only keep track of how many CCP devs have replied to or viewed the topic.

2) Add a tracker to each page of posts within a topic, which indicates the number of "CCP Views" of that specific page. This allows players to know that someone at CCP has read the posts up to page 5 or whatever. It also lets CCP track whether someone *should* make a special effort to read through the posts of the latest pages within a topic, since the tracker shows that no one at CCP has done so yet.

3) Add simple response templates for the CCP devs, with a customized dev-only forum UI, which will allow them to more quicklly indicate that they are indeed reading the topic posts, without needing to actually spend time to write, format and post a full message. For example, to answer posts from players about bugs or test server feedback, there could be a templated "bug/issue reply" button for CCP devs which simply quotes the original player post, and adds "Issue read and acknowledged. We'll fix it. Thanks!". Or for a longer thread, there could be a button that generates a templated post that says "I've read up to post #####. I'll post an update based on your responses soon. Thank you for your feedback - keep it coming!"

Note: Item (3) isn't meant to be abused by CCP devs - ie. used all of the time instead of posting "real" responses. It is only meant to let players know that someone at CCP is actually reading the posts, and hasn't had time to write a "real" response yet.

Love the overall plan for the changes.

I wish we could get an option to make the background white and the text black.

As well as to set a default size for text on the pages.

For some of us old folk, the default size text and the white text on black background make the forums painful to read.

I know the black background is tradition, but please give us the option to reverse it.

I'm concerned the fixed log-in redirect will make it too easy to do log-in traps.

when you guys redesigned the eve website a few years back imho you took something totally functioning and working perfectly and easy to navigate and fuxored it all to hell. I have no faith that this will be any different.
