Small gang PVP options for 3-4 noobs?

if you are flying as a group all the time, then fit accordingly. most of the fits i see here are solo. when in a group its not a bad idea to have only one point, then ewar on the rest of the ships. using ewar to compensate for your missing skills and experience will tip the engagement on your favor, and the single point will force anyone who engages to leave someone behind or go all in. no need to point everyone.

You guys would be a strong force in lowsec. I recommend joining a merc, pirate, or fw corp. You'd be a great asset and have a lot more fun.

We've joined a FW corp and have started doing some plexes in enemy territory. Most of the time though, there are only 2 of us online together. I'm kind of having a hard time picking what type of ship to use for these, would anyone have any suggestions? I have tried a scam kiting setup (Breacher), and it seemed fun bun hard to keep ships at ~8k. When I orbit they always drop out of range and if I come in closer its easy to get to me. I'm wondering what is better for us to be doing.

Something that kites from warp disruptor range seems safe but also seems very low damage, and so it would take a long time to kill plex npcs or players and seems like it would be impossible to kill a cruiser or anything with a decent tank.

An up close brawler seems like it would be pretty good but I haven't tried it yet. Are any of these frigates going to be able to fight a cruiser 2v1 and still be fit to hold their own vs frigates? We have been trying different size plexes from novice to medium in our frigates. I guess what I don't understand is, is this totally rock paper scissors? If I switch to a cruiser fit with rapid light missile launchers to fight frigates will other cruisers destroy me? Then if I fit to fight other cruisers will one frigate that gets in and orbits me be able to kill me?

I don't know about the PVE aspect of FW but I do see a lot of Federation Navy Comets and Tristans about. Both of which are tanky and operate under scram range.

you can do mwd kite tristan - I don't remember how, sadly :P

But... you fit medium shield extender, warp disruptor and mws in meds, nothing in highs, and then... nanofiber and some other stuff in low slots. It's a popular kiting fit, will work very well in gangs.

As for flying cruisers... You might get caught more often, as cruisers won't hit warp as quickly as a frig does. I'd advise you to just stick to frigate gangs till you start to kill everything in your path.

Scram kite fit: kestrel

Rigs: small anciliary current router, 2x trimark armor pump (don't remember exact names now)

Highs - 4x rocket launcher

meds - 2x werb, j5b warp scram and an afterburner

lows - 400 mm rolled tungen plates, and either ballistic control system od damage control unit.

When someone enters your plex hit approach till you can scram and web them. Then "keep at range 7.5". if they can reliably reach you with good dps (rails, arties etc) hit orbit at 500 m and burn the AB. It will most likely allow you to outpace their tracking. Slicers and missile boats will be difficult for ya if their short range fitted (better dps, same range as you) but I did kill slicers with this fit.

When scram kiting with a breacher I'd probably hit "keep at range 5.0 km" and see what happens then act accordingly. No idea how you fly breacher, or what fit you use, but I'd try to rely on it's superior tank, instead of total range control.

Thanks for the help guys.

We have done some novice to medium plexes and the results are mainly either a) no one shows up and we get free lp or b) more people than us two show up and kill us.

I just really wish we could get into some "fair" fights. Like 2v2 or 2v3 or 1v1. Are there tricks to finding whos out there to get help pick our engagements instead of waiting for people to come find us?

I have used the d-scanner and use it on long 360 to see when other ships are anywhere near, then narrow it to see which direction, but we've never found anyone who's just out in space and not docked at a station with guns or something.

How do you actually find people to pvp without just getting mobbed?

Consider your approach. If you are running the FW plexes and depending on others to bring the fight to you then essentially you are playing by THEIR terms. The concept of fair fights rarely exists in Eve and you should look at it more as getting a 'favourable' engagement.

Now. If you are running the plexes that means you have the opportunity to control the range at which the fight starts since you are in a gated location. So while I said earlier that you are playing be the aggressors terms, in reality you have the opportunity to decide the range at which the engagement starts. When you realise that everyone is aware of this powerful advantage you have you can realise why you might get larger numbers engaging rather than equal numbers.

Putting yourself in their position and actually being the hunter allows you to decide if an engagement is doable or not. More importantly, as you improve you will realise that engaging against larger numbers is often entirely possible as long as you control the grid. Essentially keep away from the majority and try to pick off anyone that pulls away from their blob.

Put yourselves into these, engage absolutely everything and see what happens (t1 fit works wonders, too)

Is there a reason no one seems to use Hail and instead uses the faction t1 ammo? Is it just that Hail can't hit frigates as well?

Honestly a bit out of touch with t2 projectile ammo state but that may help answer your question:
There once was a guy named wensly, he was a Eve famous rifter pilot and blogger. Before he signed off he had done up a rather detailed projectile ammo comparison which validated many folks choice of ammo on rifter hulls.

It may still float around on the Internet and may be out of date but that info drove ammo choice for some time in the game.

The tL;dr was that the faction ammo was better MOST of the time, so hail only got used in niche cases. Imo that is a good spot for them 2 ammo to be in, specialized use cases as opposed to the go to choice all the time you see on other weapon systems.

Keep in mind, that everything I wrote about above may very well be three+ years out of date, but that's what I remember. You likely seeing the results of other folk like me who haven't bothered to keep up with theammo changes and sticking with what they rememberer in fits.
