Aaaaaand last but not least, we've added a shortcut for adding a new location, which by default is CTRL+B, just because we can, and more importantly because we realized there wasn't one and we thought you guys would appreciate it. Oh and we added the option to edit locations from the right click and radial menus, so you don't have to open up the P&P window to do that. :)
I happen to know some scouts in the WH corporation my main playing character resides in that now want to shower you and the team behind this with kisses, hugs, beer, confetti, you name it!Big smile

As you now have the "compass" code, could you toss that over to some other team to show the overview content as an overlay on your cap. In big fights when zoomed out to the max, I have no clue in which direction the enemy is actually approaching from :)

Well however fast you make it, it won't be faster than the probe window and if you changed that to be just as slow people would be out for blood and I think you know that. If it's not as fast the probe window, people won't use it. I get that you want a radar like sweep but functionality has to come first.

Very nice. I only hope that there will be an option to not view certain corp bookmarks. A lot of the time there are a lot of corp bookmarks in a system, and a lot of them are absolute garbage. I can't delete them because I don't have permission. That's ok, I don't want to delete them, I just don't ever want to see that particular bookmark ever again. I would still like to see corp bookmarks, just not ALL of them. I would really like it if that became a possibility.

Alliance bookmarks please?

Also, some things that are tangentially related to bookmarks. They probably don't fall under the category of this expansion, but please keep them in mind.

A Filter for bookmarks, similar to the one we have in any given can/hanger/station (in the upper right). So I know if I'm looking for a bookmark to share I can start typing in the name, or the system/region it's in, something, and get a narrowed list.

Along those same lines, expanded search options. For example, enclosing things in quotations searches for exact terms, adding things like AND/OR between words searches for both terms, etc.

I don't want to give away too much about why this is important, so if a dev wants to hit me up, evemail is the best way. I want to stress though that next to alliance bookmarks, this would be the most absolutely helpful thing in the entire universe.

On Sisi Trying this now.

1) The Probe Scanner and DScan is two separate windows.

2) CTRL-B opens a bookmark, click submit.. bookmark.

3) You can put bookmarks into folders, then click the folder to hide it from being in space.

4) You can use the radial menu to target a bookmark and warp to it

5) For the first time in 2 years, I actually looked at the sunshine in space in Eve.

Yaay!!!!

This is an awesome feature; I was thinking of 2 possible upgrades for this to have more awesomeness.

(1) Have option filter option to force it only display the overview items.

(2) At the top of the Sensor Overlay Filtering menu have an option filter by a range.- i.e set a minimum and maximum distance for the sensor overlay. I am thinking a slider control with 2 settings. For example: if I set 0.1AU as Low and 2AU as High; This would show only on sensor overlay/compass items between 0.1AU and 2AU from me.

Hi space friends,
Thanks for the great response so far makes working on this that much more enjoyable Big smile

Pls change the brackets color/shape/whatever to differentiate Bookmarks that are ON GRID and OFF GRID

We did consider differentiating warpable vs. non-warpable sites. I'm not super excited about supporting grid-fu exploiting directly so what would your particular use case be?

Lil' Brudder Too wrote:
Except, locations that are all buried within folders absolutely SUCK to navigate quickly with the right click menu in space.

The right click menu in empty space is not changing. When you interact with the bracket via right click or the radial context menu then you immediately get the options for that location directly regardless of folder, provided you haven't hidden it. If you intend to rely on the right click empty space location list for access you are not really using this feature anyway.

We do have plans to make access to your locations (as opposed to exploration content to be discovered) quicker. All the bookmarks are known to the client before you even enter the system most of the time so we are not bound to the server telling use about them like is the case with the discovery/exploration content. We do realize the tactical importance bookmarks will have in many cases and that arbitrary delays impact game play around gates or when logging in while in space.

Mara Rinn wrote:
Now your next challenge: have the "compass rose" expand out to become the tactical overlay when we activate that feature. Activate tactical overlay, the various tick-marks become "dots on poles" around the border of the tactical overlay's 250km radius disc.

Interesting idea you have there. I had toyed with having a 'similar' in scene compass/direction indicators while overlay was active but haven't had the time to explore that any.

Also an interesting idea. The compass/direction tool has been sparking interest from various non-sensor overlay related activities and it certainly merits some contemplating. For now though we will stick to showing just overlay related information.

Linkoman wrote:
Awesome changes! However could us colourblind folk (particularly red/green) get some options to help distinguish those colored lines?

I have been thinking off different stripe like patterns for the site ticks or lines in the compass to give them a distinct signature. A bit like how DNA strips tend to be represented. It has the potential to become very messy exceptionally in a busy system but then again it might work. I'm not making any promises for the next release though.

It is nice to see good constructive feedback so please keep it coming.

1. Can we get expeditions to show up on the compass display as well? Or even just lump them in with mission objectives? That way when I'm doing an exploration run I will know that I have passed into a system that has an expedition, reducing the need to have the expeditions window open at all times.

2. I second/third/fourth/bazillionth the notion that bookmarks on the overview would be awesome. Even more awesome if I could give them their own colored background and make them float to the top regardless of how the overview is arranged. I always have the bookmarks window open to keep track of signatures I've already scanned. If bookmarks were on the overview then I can easily get rid of one more open window.

3. Going along with #2, allowing me to put expeditions on the overview would be great in addition to having them on the compass. Again, it would be awesome to be able to give expeditions on the overview their own background color, and be able to set them to float to the top - regardless of the overall overview arrangement. In other words I can make bookmarks and expeditions ignore the sorting of the overview. I usually have overview set to sort by distance, but being able to make certain things float to the top no matter how far away they are would be cool.

Here is what my screen looks like when I explore (pretty much all of my playtime):

As you can see there is a lot going on. Bookmarks and expeditions on the overview would clear out two panels, opening up quite a lot of space. At the very least, for the short term, it would be nice to be able to reduce the height and width of the Journal window and People & Places window even more. They are currently set to minimum size in that screen shot and still far bigger than I need. I only need to see one line of text, so I can see if there is any bookmark or expedition in the system I am in at the moment. If I could say... drag off the expeditions tab and drag off the places tab, resize them however I want, and place them in-line with the overview... that would be amazing...

here is an example:

Still too much UI but... a little less claustrophobic.

Something that would go extremely well with this change:

The ability to open the star/system map in a collapsible window.

I use multiple monitors for my single character, and while I would love to navigate the system by the F11 mini-map, it's just too fiddly and small. On the other hand, the non-mini map spends takes up all three monitors and spends time loading. If we could have the map open on its own monitor, it would be extremely convenient, and together with Bookmarks in Space it would provide a unified sense of position in space.

Pretty please <3
