Are there any moral conscience issues rising amoung resellers?

I used to resell quet alot and was rly good at it. Eve-friends told me i was a natural. Sort of verbaly (by typing) i tried to rip off high end modules or snything else above 5b isk. Back in the summer of 2010 i start to notice that everytime i ripped someone off, the week after i got terrible unluck. Everytime i had a good strike... karma stroke back. As example this one time, i mad 20b on a tournament ship, i got attackt by a flock of pigeons when holding a sandwich and exiting a store. Out of the blue. My last encounter was on my motercycle. I made 50b on a T2 bpo and the week after i got into a mothercycle accident costing lots of broken bones and some perm memory amnesia.

Does any other of the resellers out here encounter the same?

None at all... which is to say leave your morals, if any, at the door and jump in the deep end. Twisted

Coincidence and a guilty conscience. Nothing more.

There are many activities in EVE that will not conflict with your basic nature. In 10 years of playing this game I have separated many pods from the ships they were in but I've never double crossed anyone or stolen anything. Not one Awox, not one theft, not one scam or broken promise on my conscience.

My basic nature is to work (fairly) hard and earn my keep. Having laws is one thing, but having ethics is another. One is enforced from outside, one is enforced from within. That said, you now all know that I am not a banker in real life :)

I've never had a problem... knock on wood... including the 225 billion I made flipping one T2 BPO.

Karma is a joke. My whole life, both in and out of game I always played fair and fought hellish battles to uphold good morals. Nothing good ever came of it, only bad. For trying to do good, everyone turns on you and just takes whatever they can regardless if you will end up homeless or not. Screw karma and screw anyone dumb enough to let you I say. I stopped having morals a year ago and finally for once I have more than just enough money to not make ends meet in both IRL and eve. Karma is a myth used to maintain control over the masses. There is no etherical force of any nature controlling or manuipulating circumstances based on what you do, only what you do to affect change in your life and what others do to affect change in your life will affect changes in your life.

The trade off is that most people aren't interested in being friends, etc. I can live with that, because I don't care about their families anyways, only my own. I won't murder IRL, but I will shiv you and take your stuff in a heartbeat in eve. I won't break into your house IRL or steal from corp or corpies in eve, but I will scam the hell out of you if you're not on my team. If I can pop your ship by spending less than 25% of it's cost to double my isk on the transaction loot then I will regardless of sec hit. it's a dog eat dog world out there and I'm the alpha wolf baby. THAT is how eve and life works. If you're not willing to fight to get it and keep fighting to keep it then someone who is willing to fight for it will come and take it from you. it might as well be me since I can spend it better ....

Cheers :)

why would there be bad karma with reselling? you are providing a service after all, you are absorbing overflow in production keeping a stable price, and absorbing spikes in demand keeping prices down.

the only people that get angry at flipping and reselling are people who think the eve economy doesn't have the volume to absorb the effects of individual manipulation. attempting to manipulate some commodities in eve is a pointless as trying to DDOS google.com, this is something any old trader knows, and interfering with manipulation attempts is what market PVP is all about. so if people wont do it for the profit, they will do it for the sport. in the end, the end buyer gets the fairest price, always. unless hes buying a carbon instead of a charon, and in that case he has no one to blame but himself. :D

The world is full of re-sellers, what's the moral problem? Direct TV sells AT&T phone service.

that said the fewer scruples you have the fewer boundaries there are to break, which means more money to make

There's a fine line between risk, profit, amount of time that went into reselling, facilitating efficient markets, ROI opportunity cost and rip off.

There are traders who work hard and create efficient markets. Not all traders are evil just because they "speculate".

But certainly seems like a bit of well deserved karma for a 20b markup. I'd never mark something up that high, it's just gross and poor trader ethic.

Having said that, EVE is a tough and competitive game. Still at the very least exhibit some sportsmanlike/reasonable behavior.

Humans are social animals and by design are supposed to feel empathy. If they don't there's something wrong with them. So maybe deep inside your inner responsibility (possibly genetically imprinted) as a social animal is telling you something - perhaps that lack of empathy is not ok for you as a member of these species and you should either adjust/fix it or be punished.

I am of the opinion that the way you act in game is telling of your morals and thinking outside of game. If you default to scamming in game and enjoy peoples suffering then I wouldn't rush to trust you outside of the game.

I totally agree. The repercussion to unethical conduct is a crappy reputation. And a good reputation is worth a lot more than a few billion ISK if you ask me.

I'm sorry to hear that (assuming you're not making this up), but I believe the two events are unlerated. Karma is just a story to keep people on the right track.
