As solved by Tau, for future new players with the same Q:

That's cool! ....but allow me to modify your graphic a tad to add the advice that actually I needed: Before Tau told me, I actually never CLICKED AT SHIP HANGAR. Perhaps very dumb, but perhaps, as I realize now, not really so dumb, cause EVE at this point moves away from Windows standards that are very deeply ingrained in most of us: In the list on the left side Ship Hangar is opened, and the assembled ships are listed there---according to normal Windows UI standards that means nothing else but these same ships would appear on the right side if you clicked at Ship Hangar. Obviouisly, EVE is not a standard Windows program, but the Inventory just looks so much like a standard Explorer-like display that one, or at least I, is expecting the same behavior.

Anyway: the slightly modified graphic:

Not entirely true.

In Windows tree system, you will only see sub-folders (assembled ships) in the tree, but you won't see actual files (un-assembled ships) in the tree itself.

btw: Awesome MS Paint Power at work hereLol

Actually youre mostly right, regarding Windows tree system, then again a folder wont unfold and show the sub-folders unless you clicked at the folder beforehand---and then you will not only see the the sub-folders but also the single files on the right side anyway. In EVE the ship hangar folder seems to be unfolded by default, without showing the "files" (=non-assembled ships) on the right. But lets not nitpick: I think what confused me may indeed confuse other players, too, so I guess its good we have established the silly, simple solution here.

(And of course Im not using MS Paint but Photoshop like everyone...I just sometimes find it kind of charming to brutally paint with the brush instead of using the straight-line pencil. Wouldnt have cost any more time, but I found it funnier this way.)

I prefer a different solution.

In the main "E" menu in the upper left you will find "inventory -> open ship hangar".

You can drag that icon to the bar on the left to be able to immediately open your ship hangar, rather than clicking the inventory icon first. Saves a click and makes it so I always see items when I click inventory and ships when I click ship hangar.

Don't lose heart. You'd be surprised what some of the older players don't know. It's a vast game. Nobody knows everything about everything.

Edit: To fit in

I used the merged option to see my inv and ships hanger in the station gui .. which shows all ships nicely .. and i had never thought of not being able to see them the way you were looking at them .. i would have been as lost if i solely relied on that method .. learn things (not just 1 thing) every day in eve .. year after year after year.

History is the study of change.

To have to come here and have this convo on the forum tells me that you don't have much support in game. This game is a true MMO you need to play with other people to really enjoy it so I'd look for an active corp with helpful members. Or find some chat channels with friendly people in it.

You are not too old nor too dumb. This game is complex. I had my cousin get me into this game and had him on vent to walk me through simple stuff, It was a year of that before I felt even slightly confident.

TLDR;
get friends, find a good corp, find good chat channels.

Yeah, I wonder why Azda Ja or others from your corp did help you. Or...

*dramatic closeup*

are you all just one person?

*gasp*

But yeah, inventory is frakking confusing until you actually click on all things and learn what where and how (and maybe why but I wouldn't bet my life on it).

The sad thing is that I played eve online before all these UI changes and it was more intuitive back then. Ship hanger for instance, was much easier to find for a newbie. Every time you opened an inventory tab, it was a new window instead of redirecting your window to that place. That made dragging and dropping items, ships, and ore, etc, much more intuitive than the system in place now.

People talk about how eve is better than WoW. I still get one shotted undocking in a frigate if there's a WT thrasher outside. It looks eerily similar to getting one shotted in WoW battlegrounds by a x9 level player when you're x1-4 levels.
