W-Space residents: What exactly do you do all day?

In my line of work I spend a lot of time cloaked, cruising around w-space. Very frequently, I find players who are online, sitting in their POS doing seemingly nothing. Not ratting, not mining, not fighting or even refitting. Just sitting there for hours and hours. Sometimes there are three of four pilots sitting in caps, and they just end up logging off.

So my question is, what exactly is going on here? Is this some strange religious ritual I don't understand? Is everyone just joking around on comms and using EVE as a pretty screensaver? Or is it space madness?

Any explanations are welcome.

They are waiting for their cloaked scout to find a target so they can provide backup.

Most of them are AFKing all day long doing nothing or playing some other games or playing on their k-space characters. Those caps that you have seen probably had a scout few hours before they planned to farm, and with the current state of not so safe rolling holes they have a guy or two cloaked on wormholes that are connected to their home system, and if they are any kind of "typical farmers" if they have seen anything jumping inside 1-2 hours, they will not risk it trying to close the wormhole.

So it's basically, AFK,FARM,LOGOFF for most of them, and then there are couple of PVP groups like us that have content creators and other things where we do our best to find PVP and have fun.

POS SPINNING

Its all the rage since stations got the counter. Unfortunately we have to manually keep track and always try to beat each others high scores. Big smile

I knew some paranoid individuals in the past who would stay logged in at their tower 24/7 in the idea that this would preclude others from running the sites in their home system. This mentality is related to the "I'll just eject a fleet and leave it floating in my POS shield permanenty" way of thinking.

I don't ascribe much efficacy to either concept though.

Also, in my own case, I'm usually sitting in my POS while my alt is out scanning, which could look like inactivity if you didn't know that I was working my way down the chain.

+1 to most of the above comments as well.

TL:DR - People AFK in their towers for lots of reasons. Mostly because they're playing Archeage.

Yeah, well, it's just like my opinion, man.

Depends really, some people at the POS will either be doing PI, or waiting for friends to come online, or even (if they have an alt) scouting out the chain, mapping it and looking for a fight.

Alternatively, some will log on and sit chatting in channels for a few hours and being generally social on TS with a beer.

Then there are the people that will sit possed up because you're in their hole or there has been activity. These are the people that either wont fight because they don't like PvP or won't fight because they're outmatched, or the potential to be out matched.

If you find me AFK at a POS you can probably bet I have either gone for a cup of tea or something in RL has popped up. Usually I'll be cloaked or logged off however.

In my travels through my chains I have noticed a trend, as someone stated above, usually it is the farmers that spend their time at their POS AFK. But if you have the patience, you can wait them out.

Many of the PvPers (although I can only speak for myself) will be cloaked waiting for you to make a move as they will already know you are there.

Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person."

Oh that happens on a fairly regular basis, but they aren't there just waiting. Most are doing other items, writing reports, reading up on stuff, playing another alt in some other sector in space (can do one but not the other), or spying on corporations, scouting target holes, or sitting cloaked looking at you when you jump into the hole.

Sometimes to keep you here, we have to bait you with something.

What im doing in WH space since Hyperion is log a scout in once a day to see if I get a HS scan in to move the rest of my crap out. My WH-corpmates (not the corp my main is in) already left.

Was fun while it lasted, loved WH space, then came Foz.., I mean Hyperion

I pretty regularly leave accounts logged in afk at POS when I go to bed or work. *shrug*.
if im out scouting i'll almost always have an afk combat pilot or 2 logged in at a POS.

There is no Bob.

I've come to believe that people sometimes do this as sort of a reverse AFK cloaking. Maybe to make it less likely to have people come in and run their sites while away. Or if they do they would have eyes already logged in to see.

Pretty much anything. I could be cleaning my kitchen. I could be watching TV. I could be playing EFT. Yesterday I spent a couple hours updating my skill plans for my characters. Sometimes I'm just talking to corp members. Sometimes i'm talking to other corp members. Sometimes I'm out scouting with one and sitting in the pos with another. Sometimes I am trying to motivate myself to actually try and figure out how to set up my PI. I could be in the shower. I could be napping. I need to make some cookies soon, so you can pretty much guarantee that i'll be floating for that.

You crazy people that actually log out of the game when you aren't playing confuse me.

:)

P.S. Oh, sometimes I just like looking at my ship if i think it looks pretty.

Based purely on what happened yesterday:

-Logged in
-Admired the new pink C5 nebula, and for a moment, forgot about #$%@ frigate WH’s
-Complemented Corpmates on their forum prowess and the fact that they never troll
-Mocked scouts for bad scannings skills
-Mocked scouts for not being able to D-scan
-Mocked scouts for poor adherence to bookmarking conventions
-Got mocked by some guys in Providence
-Caused offending provi-bloc pilots to explode and counter mocked them with an appropriate gif in local
-Camped someone’s POS (privately mocking his defences)
-Ganked POS owner and stole his skill books!
-Mocked our HIC pilot for allowing yet another pod to escape
-Found a Phoenix in an SMA at an offline tower in a C3.
-Chuckled about the Phoenix after realising the SMA wasn’t empty, as it was initially assumed.
-Proudly declared that it’s been ages since I lost a Dramiel
-Lost a Dramiel
-Rage-logged
