UPDATE: CCP HAS AGREED TO MATCH EVERY DONATION DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR UP TO $5,000! More info soon, but I just got the green light on this and am in the midst of getting kids off to school. Big smile

Hey folks! This is something I've talked about a bit on the Alliance Tournament stream, and may or may not get to mention once more today. Finally posting it here!

I'm participating in a fundraiser that blows the ALS Ice Bucket challenge out of the water. I'm raising money for the Colorado Children's Hospital. The charity is the Children's Miracle Network, and the local hospital treats thousands of children each year, regardless of their family's ability to pay. These kids are facing scary stuff like cancer, cystic fibrosis, and injuries from accidents to name just a few.

On September 25, 2014, I'll be visiting the local hospital to spend several hours playing games with some of the kids who are being treated there and getting to know them. Then, on October 25, 2014, I'll be participating in this huge worldwide gaming marathon to raise awareness and money for the Children's Miracle Network, playing any sort of game you can think of for 24 straight hours (video games, tabletop RPGs, board games--anything! In my case, at least a good chunk of EVE!). I'd love your support for this cause. I've started off the donations with $100 of my own--taking the place of any Ice Bucket stuff--and challenge you to add to the cause. Last year I raised $200, but I want to do better this time around!

In addition, I'm hosting an event in EVE Online during the marathon, contingent upon reaching my new goal of $10,000, wherein I will take my Nyx supercarrier out for one last spin, dropping it in lowsec somewhere to be killed by whomever shows up. I'll be announcing this on the Alliance Tournament XII stream, and may get some help from CCP publicizing the event, so keep an eye out if you're an EVE player! Mark October 25th on your calendar if you want on a Nyx killmail. Much like the Revenant event on Friday/Saturday, it will be dropped either into an incursion system or a plex of some sort to prevent a massive capital mess.

UPDATE: SirSqueebles, fellow AT commentator and famous EVE streamer has offered to suicide a supercapital with me, possibly a second Nyx. Double the fun!

Your donation is tax-deductible and ALL PROCEEDS go to help kids as you would expect.

You can make a donation here on this page, safely and securely, publicly or anonymously. Thanks!

Update: I have 4 friends who have agreed to bring carriers or dreads to die along with me, so there will be FIVE capital kills to get!

Has CCP taken steps to make sure that a killmail will actually generate this time?

So this has generated a fair bit of interest on Failheap, but not so much here!

This is a great cause, and I'd really love to see some more interest. If nothing else, I hope to get decent turnout/viewership on my stream that night so that we might get some donations to the cause as the event goes on. I'm working on some outside sponsors (including a different non-profit that was founded by a friend of mine after their child barely survived cancer) to perhaps do some matching, so there's a solid chance your donations may be matched 1:1 or even 2:1. Seriously though, even $5 is a huge help. Think of it like this--if 2,000 people are planning to show up for this, and 2,000 people donate $5, that's $10,000 right there. Match that 2:1, and that's $30,000! That's huge, and it's for a charity that literally pays for children's medical care. I'll update as I can on that, but my friend's non-profit has half a dozen high profile corporate sponsors that we're trying to get involved in the Extra Life cause. Chances are very good that we'll get at least one match.

In addition, I've been getting messages from several people about other capitals/supercapitals that they want to have go down in a blaze of fiery glory for whatever reason (at least one is retiring from EVE and says his cap is worth 16 billion in terms of fittings!), so this event could end up with more than just the Nyx kill!

For those not from the US, without getting into the politics of it, healthcare here is expensive. Insurance companies, which in theory pay for your treatment, often refuse to pay for treatments, citing legal loopholes in their policies. This means that families with children who are fighting cancer, cystic fybrosis, or any number of other lethal illnesses that require extensive medical care can wind up facing not just a few hundred dollars of medical bills, but quite literally hundreds of thousands of dollars. This is an amazing cause, and I really want to help it along.

I plan to take some photos while at the hospital I'm supporting in two weeks. I'll be there to play games with some of the kids there and to get to know them better. Perhaps I'll have some stories to tell. But really, this is an amazing cause, and frankly could be a really fun event.

If people are interested in me doing other things in addition, I'm going to be marathon gaming for 24 hours as part of the fundraiser, so I could lead fleets in EVE, offer to play LoL, DotA, or War Thunder, or World of Tanks with people who are interested in doing that should they donate. If there are other games (preferably free to play) that people would like to play, I'll certainly look into it. Either way I'll be streaming the entire thing via Twitch.

If anyone has questions, hit me up with an EVE mail.

Still on for sure. I'm at just over $1,600 in donations, but I anticipate that going up quite a bit very soon with some news that I have in the pipeline.

I visited the local Children's Hospital here in Colorado and had a blast playing Mario Kart, FIFA 15, and Destiny with some of the kids (consoles only in their lounge, not PCs so I couldn't subject them to EVE). Was great to meet some of them and tell them about what we're doing.

I'll come back very soon with details, as soon as I can. I promise it'll be awesome news and the event will be amazing!

I decided to spread some more awareness about this event across my readers as it's for a noble cause, the more people that know about it, the better!

If you haven't done it already, best submit a Fleet Fight notification to CCP, so they can reinforce the node in advance, in order to reduce TiDi during fighting.

Wish you success in raising more donations! Hopefully raising awareness works!

PS: Do keep in mind the event can last a good while, perhaps a few hours if you fly a tanky Nyx & are faced with heavy TiDi.

Well the good news is I planned the event with CCP while I was in Iceland, so they already know to reinforce the node!

I also fully anticipate TiDi, and am working on how to stream my Nyx's health bar while I play another game and stream it--after all, the Extra Life marathon is about gaming for 24 hours, and a 4 hour event of watching my Nyx get blown to pieces feels a little like cheating. :)

Wont be able to make this myself (hosting an RvB Tournament the same weekend), I am trying my best to get attention focused on this event and its cause.

Given I will not be there, I am going to make a cash donation following my return from vegas.

Fantastic news!!!

CCP has agreed to MATCH EVERY DONATION UP TO $5,000!!!!

I approached them about this event while in Iceland, and CCP Falcon talked to me about possibly getting this to happen. Since he's been traveling, CCP Gargant has taken the lead on this and has been hard at work making sure that this happens!

From here on out, EVERY DOLLAR DONATED WILL BE MATCHED! We just need to raise $5,000 to make my goal of $10,000!

More info here!

Indeed! Happening status: It's.

We are very happy to partake in the Extra-Life program, as it is a good cause and involves our favorite activities! Let's all make sure we see some supercapital wrecks on the 25th of October.

Its a little disappointing that this hasn't gathered more attention, but I'm happy that there's a good cause behind it. Its nice to see charitable causes get the help they deserve, and for once I can legitimately say: "But think of the children!"

We'll get there. I believe there will be a news item from CCP at some point before the event, and I know EVE News 24, Crossing Zebras, and TheMittani.com are all planning to interview me leading up to this to get all the details. I'm also going to get an article about it in my local town newspaper (~200,000 subscribers), and am in touch with the "nerd blogger" for the Denver Post, some of the folks at Colorado Public Radio, and one of the local morning shows here in Colorado as well. If nothing else it'll get some local exposure here in Colorado.

I'm up to $2,000 today, from $1,661, so donations are trickling in. $3,000 to go! Thanks to all who have donated. I'm working out what other sorts of incentives I might offer, maybe a PLEX raffle or one of my bling fit ships or something for all the EVE players who donate. More on that soon, still trying to get the 6b I threw at my tournament team back, or at least the portions I'm due back. :)
