Why can't we look outside from in stations?

Do these things not have windows? How is it possible that one would have no knowledge of what lies just off the dock of an enormous technical marvel of a space station? Seems to me a quick look out would tell you what's out there. Maybe not who's out there but certainly what's out there.

Because there is a huge amount of legacy code preventing it.

That ringing in your ears you're experiencing right now is the last gasping breathe of a dying inner ear as it got thoroughly PULVERISED by the point roaring over your head at supersonic speeds. - Tippia

Knowledge of glass making and forging transparent aluminum was lost after the collapse of the EVE gate.

And because you are in a completely different environment within the program,
when you are inside the station. The client does not know anything about what's
going on in space when one is docked. Changing this would need a huge amount of work.

Riddle me this.

How the hell do you open the door so you can go find a window to look through? Solve that and the problem fixes itself.

Aaah! But, what if it were a glass door?

With current docking mechanics, can't you take a quick look anyway?

Really?!??!?!

We cant get a ******* functional door.... what in the three hells makes you think they are capable of making a window??!?!?

A window with closed shutters that never open should be possible.

You are still not paranoid enough. We are capsuleers. At the same time admired, feared and loathed by the rest of New Eden.

Your pod is the only place where your survival is ensured without some sort of loss. Who would entrust his well being to a window?

But I agree, there should be some kind of information in CQ about what's going on outside of the station.

Remove standings and insurance.

Undock in pod.
CTRL+SPACE.
29 seconds.
Dock.

A window to space, combined with the current CQ is not going to happen, because ...

... designwise it makes no sense.
... it would be a nightmare rewriting the station part.
... too gfx heavy.
... huge restrictions in possibilities, even if the TV is used.

Not gonna happen with current station environments.

Pff, windows are so 20th century, we have clear aluminum now according to Scotty in Star Trek - The Voyage Home.

also, what in hell prevents you from just undocking and redocking before your invul timer runs out?

Being able to look at what is happening outside the station would remove the risk of undocking
