For those who dont live on the internet. Kerry fisher (princess leia from starwars) and William shattner (Captain Kirk from Star Trek) have been at war recently over what series is best. It is a youtube flamewar the likes of which... well... its the internet so I guess we have seen it before... BUT STILL!

A new challenger approaches to set things straight. George Takei (from Star Trek) proposes a peace between all Sci-Fidom to go to war against a common menace. Twilight!

More here!

As one commenter put...

"Trekkies, Star Wars fans, Whovians, Browncoats, Dwarfers, Lord of the Rings and even Harry Potter fans, we the Nerd Militia must ALL stand united against the Twihard Menace!!! We stand behind you, George Takei; lead the charge with the battle cry of "OH MY!!!!!!!!""

It's actually 'Carrie' Fisher, not Kerry. :) And yes, this is lol-worthy. Star Trek Forever!

It's the Bat'leth, and with the amount of time it takes to swing that around a trained warrior with a Ka-bar would've already punctured both my lungs

Personally, I go for a mek'leth. Much easier to use.

And fun to say.

What a colossal waste of time.

Watching "Trekkies" and Star Wars fans argue with each other is like watching two teenage girls argue about whether or not Bella should go with the vampire or the werewolf. I don't give a flying **** what anybody else wants to watch in their spare time, or which they think is the best.

On terms of the star trek and star wars fight...

look...

be honest...

Star Trek is Science fiction

Star Wars Is Future Fantasy.

They are not compairable and have their own merits. I prefer to watch star Trek personally, but hey, that doesnt mean I gotta hate on no star wars either.

Now that thats settled. Lets burn twilight!

It's a lil' bit more complex than that.

Arguing the difference between 'Trek and 'Wars can turn into a great lesson in the art of debating - you really shouldn't knock it.

My angle on why people debate this is down to the kind of story-telling you're into, because that's essentially what people are defending.

Those that go with a more classic style of story-telling, dealing with archetypal story design like The Hero's Journey will warm more towards 'Wars than 'Trek.

Those who believe in an ensemble character story will go more with 'Trek, as its themes generally require the use of multiple characters to resolve a story and become situational.

So you have this great divide in story-telling, where some people believe that problems should, can and will be resolved by collaboration and general 'pulling together to achieve a common goal'. The flip to this is those who believe in 'The One', and warm to the idea of a single person, through destiny/fate/universal-forces, will save the day - or at their core has the ability to save the day, and all they need to do is dig deep enough internally to find this 'power'. When you have a film with an impossible shot or a one-in-a-million chance of achieving something, you're not watching a 'Trek film, you're watching a 'Wars film - and the likelihood is the one-in-a-million is going to turn into a 1:1 ratio when our Hero is at the helm.

You could equate this mindset to people who externalize their thoughts and those who internalize their thoughts.

Those that externalize have this need to air out ideas for others to critique and provide affirmation. Conversely, those that internalize their thoughts take their time and think things through, perhaps stating their conclusions/ideas once fully formed.

Some people go both ways, for sure - but that's my take on it.

And the minute someone defends 'Trek because it has its roots in real science and, ergo, is better than 'Wars - I'd argue that the second word in science fiction is fiction.

Person 1: Apple pies are DELICIOUS!
Person 2: What the hell is wrong with you, man? Pumpkin pies are where it's at!
Person 1: Clearly you are mistaken. Apple pies warm your belly on a chilly autumn evening. Pumpkin pies are served chilled, yet their construction materials are harvested in a season when warm food is preferred.
Person 2: This would matter if you were sitting outside in the field eating them. Luckily I have a warm house in which I may consume my pies. Apple pies are messy and difficult to eat, as the interior of the pie does not stay in one solid piece. Pumpkin pies hold their shape and can be served in cleanly shaped slices. I want a pie slice, not a pile of loose pie filling that used to be inside a pie.

And so on...

A small history lesson for the militia.

Back in the day, when armies of the world used bolt action rifles. Sweden (and probably a few other countries) used ammunition loaded with wooden bullets for training the troops. That was their training ammunition. Normally, a special piece was attacked at the muzzle of the rifle so that when wooden bullet exit the barrel, it would be splintered/broken up.

Now. Can anyone remember any vampires from Sweden? Ever wonder why?

Star Wars never had a "proper" series. Star Trek had multiple offspring series.
For that matter, the Stargate series also had a major chunk in audience - though not as eccentric, afaik P

Twilight ... sweety sweet vampire story/movie that panders to the teenage to early twenties audience ... Heavy Fluff Gun strikes their "coolness" spot for 9000 dmg perfectly. It's really no contest. They'll grow out of it sooner or later.

As such, I'll just sit back and watch with my popcorn.
Sorry George, even though I'm a nerd for scif-fi series, my flawless analysis tells me such efforts are a wasted.
Better yet, if you're still adamant about it ... work at a new Star Trek series (that's not corrupted by the Battlestar Galactica style story and filming).
