Looking to put together a decent omen t1 set up for PVP

Something that will do well against frigates and can help defend my system.

Preferably not too expensive. Something I can make a bunch of =)

I have EFT but I am worried I am picking the wrong mods... So many options, as a new player, I have no idea of the differences.

I have most of the skills for the t2 basic mods but not for t2 weapons. Basically I am just not sure of what would be best for those extra low/mid slots and which t1 turrets are the best.

Thanks in advance!

P.S. a run down of what ships I would have an advantage over or which to avoid would be greatly appreciated. Also, yes I have checked the wiki and eve uni etc... But there is very little info on how the fits work or whether they are out dated or not. This makes it very hard to evaluate if the fit is good enough. Even more so when most fits don't even have single comment under them.

Do you plan to fly solo or in a fleet?

The omen, and all laser boats, really become completely different beasts once they can fit T2 pulse lasers because of scorch ammo. If you want to continue on the amarr route try to get T2 pulses.

I plan to fly with fleets or at least friends defending our system from solo pk's.

I know its not going to be perfect, just something that wont die in 2 hits and isnt to expensive.

I plan on staying amarr. So even a t2 fit would be fine and ill just dial back the guns to t1.

I kept training for all these different things and was getting no where so I dialed it back and focused on energy turrets/armor because I already had so much into amarr.

I normally don't agree to the "must fit T2 before PVPing" but in case of pulse lasers that is the case though. Pulse lasers aren't amazing; their tracking sucks, the dps isn't all that good and the damage type really is hit or miss. It's the Scorch ammo that makes pulses shine, without it just don't bother.

In the omen's case you'll use a kiting fit (pulse+scorch) for solo or small gangs and a plated fit for slightly bigger gangs, but you'll still want scorch.

As other posters have mentioned, you really need t2 guns to make an Omen work well in PvP especially in a small gang setting. As for a fit that can deal with frigates, your only real option is a kiting fit and blapping them before they can get into range. The Omen doesn't have the midslots or the tracking to brawl with frigates like a Stabber, Rupture, Thorax, Vexor or Moa can do. Something like this would work:

[Omen, PvP Kite]

Medium Ancillary Armor Repairer, Nanite Repair Paste
Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II
Adaptive Nano Plating II
Damage Control II
Heat Sink II
Heat Sink II

Experimental 10MN Microwarpdrive I
Warp Disruptor II
Small Electrochemical Capacitor Booster I, Navy Cap Booster 400

Heavy Pulse Laser II, Scorch M
Heavy Pulse Laser II, Scorch M
Heavy Pulse Laser II, Scorch M
Heavy Pulse Laser II, Scorch M
Heavy Pulse Laser II, Scorch M

Medium Ancillary Current Router I
Medium Energy Locus Coordinator I
Medium Polycarbon Engine Housing I

Warrior II x2
Valkyrie II x3

Don't get caught, if you can get good positioning you can blap frigs on the approach very well, you get 300+dps at 26km which will wreck frigs if you get goodshots. You could also run ECM drones instead of dps drones to try break locks if you get caught so you can pull range again.

Can confirm that this is a good fitting. Basic guideline: Better stay away too far for applying dps for a few seconds, than getting caught and die within a few seconds.
You gotta look at the overview, watch the speed indicators of enemy ships, and figure if they're going for you or not.
If yes, burn away from them and strafe into safety (this is usually your friends).
Good Thermodynamic skills will increase your lifespan in combat drastically.

If you start having a feeling for the ship, the next upgrade is the Navy Omen - similar dps, better speed, and almost double the range.
Probably the most fun non-pirate cruiser you can fly right now.
