Replace the rattlesnake's missile bonus with an ecm bonus

The Rattlesnake has to be the least used pirate battleship as evident by a price that is consitantly 300-400 mil lower than the average pirate battleship.

I suggest replacing the bonus to missiles to a bonus to ecm.

Alternatively, replace the velocity bonus with a RoF bonus.

Clearly something should be changed with the ship to increase demand.

All warfare is based on deception and logistics. Battles and soldiers are secondary priorities.

Yes, because people are totally going to use a 500mil battleship for ECM duty.
Fail.

Also you realise:
1. Price is not an indicator of performance. Just look at the Cynabal.
2. Supply is also a factor? Though I'm not sure how easy Guristas blueprints are to get hold of relative to other factions.

Oh and another edit: you do realise, CCP actively decided not to make the SNI an ECM ship for basically the same reason?

Ya the range bonus is kinda meaningless for cruise missiles and torps still don't have enough range even with the bonus. So the bonus is kinda unused.

A rate of fire bonus might be useful maybe just 25% though as the drone bonus is already pretty big.

Because 30km range with blaster DPS is just so awful.

Oh please do, I'd just love my ship to be doing 1.1k DPS with a 263k buffer tank.

Taking other threads into consideration as to "how to make X ship better" (thank you assault frig threadnaught), is that the velocity bonuses are consistent with the other ships in the line (worm and gila). What people also miss about a velocity bonus is that it allows a ship to hit targets that would normally outrun the missiles.

The Worm's lights, for example, can easily hit 9km/s which allow it to spank anything slower than an interceptor, and even then a few inties won't be going fast enough. Try doing that in your Hawk or Kestrel. The Hookbill doesn't count since it can do that.

Back to the topic, the Rattlesnake allows its torpedoes to hit vessels that normally would outrun torps, and likewise for cruise missiles. Cruises normally go 3,750m/s, but with skills to five its 4687.5m/s. So now that nano-cruiser that once outran your missiles (by going 4000m/s) is now getting spanked, but only occasionally because he kites. The Rattlesnake, with skills to five, flings its cruises at 5859.375m/s. Now that same nano-bastard can't outrun your missiles even when he overloads.

Rather nice implications when it comes to PvP, but what of PvE?

hehe....

so anyway, if the bonus was to get changed, it should be changed on all the ships for the sake of consistency. Before you guys (and girls) start bashing me about this, look at all of the pirate ships (except the daredevil, the little bastard), and tell me what they all have in common.

What they have in common is their bonuses; regardless if its the frigate, cruiser, or battleship, they all have the same bonus layout.

^ Nicely put.
And it's not like the Rattlesnake is even a bad ship, it has good DPS, an insane tank and a very, very flexible slot layout. You can even armour tank the thing with decent results.

Problem is if the goal is to boost rattler to bhaal/mach price, with ecm no less, you ahve it in widow territory. And if that moto for ecm, why the hell would you buy a rattler over widow?

It can't hop covert cyno's
can't bridge
would not ahve faster speed cloaked
and the biggy, rattler would have delcoak delay. that is precisous seconds for surprise jams when your bait works and then the jammers just pops up out of nowehere.

Bit more training for widow but pound for pound like ecm that much, widow a better path imo. Especially if this actually equalized prices out.

And in case you ahven't noticed black ops, especially widows, are not hot sellers. Falcon and scorp have this locked up. Scorp is your cheap opoion, falcon is your expensive option.

Also this specialized, it would kil rattlers main sales, pve. You could jam rats I guess...but why? Turn a fine pve boat into a ecm boat....you would see increased sales. Sales of people switching over to CNR or Domi lol.

Price is dictated by supply and demand, not performance.

I own one. I don't use it. (No, you can’t have it. Heh)

It tanks well. It has nice drones. Seriously, you are better off with a Navy Domi. It has the same drones, the tank of a Raven, and guns with a damage bonus. Never mind the seven low slots or the price tag.

In practical use, the range bonus does too little for torps and is not needed by cruise. Again, the Navy Domi out performs it. Using rails, it can hit farther and with more damage; using blasters, well, less range more damage. (The new 5 second reload rate is a nice feature too.)

ECM

As others have mentioned, this bonus was omitted from the Navy Scorpion. It would force the ship to always be called primary. That is fine for a tier 1 and tech 1 battleship with insurance. That is not good for a faction ship of any kind.

Hitting a Quick Target

The missiles might be able to hit something fast, but you only have three of them. You could rig them to hit small ships more effectively, or you could use the bonus to boost your strong points: drones and shield.

Supply and Demand

Think about why demand is low. Other ships, that cost less, outperform it. The performance creates the demand. That is why other ships are so costly. The Vindicator went up in price because of increased demand because of the hybrid buff.

Bonus Consistency

While I overall agree, that doesn’t always work out so well. What helps a frigate may not help a battleship. It’s not a rule that needs to be followed to the letter. In fact, it isn’t.

Look at the Serpentis ships: each has a slightly different role bonus to damage. The frigate has 200%, the cruiser 75%, and the battle ship 35%. This creates a significant difference: the frigate can use navy ammo very effectively, while the battleship cannot. Furthermore, the battleship is different from the first two. It gets a tracking speed bonus; the frigate and cruiser get a falloff bonus. This is an excellent case of making the bonus fit the ship class.

Looking at navy faction ships shows even wider results.

The Best Defense

All that said, the Guristas ships are the only pirate ships with a defensive bonus. That is a part of why damage suffers.

In the end, the Rattlesnake needs something changed. More hard points would help, and you could keep the missile velocity bonus that way. A RoF bonus and another hard point would be good. You could even *gasp* take away the resistance bonus. Not a preferred option, but a valid one. Heck, boosting the velocity bonus to 100% would give torps the range to be effectively used.

Rattlesnake vs. Sin

Out of curiosity, does the Sin out damage the Rattlesnake? I can’t run the number where I’m at. Remember, the Sin can fit two sentry drone rigs and has a damage bonus to hybrids. That would be ironic. Black Ops were designed to be low damage performers.

Cynabal

Performance and the Cybaball go hand in hand. It is a regular on the eve-kill.net top 20 list. It almost made the top 10 this month, in fact.

An extra highslot for an extra lancher on the Rattler would be nice. Bit better for PvE or PvP, and matches the Widow.

Other than that, a launcher ROF bonus would be great, but if you had the extra launcher perhaps not necessary. Maybe a small one.

Tengu has pretty much made every former "good" PvE fit based on battleships obsolete. And for PvP, well, with the exception of the drake blob and these LR Tengus we are seeing, guns are usually better for PvP.

How concise! It's nice we have Goons here to tell us these things.

Except... the facts don't line up. Goons full of sh1te? Nawww!

Rattler is:
- least capable PvP wise
- practically useless for incursions
- no massive DPS capability like vindicator
- No great tracking bonus like Nightmare
- No great mobility like Mach

Pretty much the worst faction batleship tbh.

Sure would be nice if Goons actually made arguments instead of useless, misinformed, dismissive posts like this one. Ah well, I guess posts really are based on capability.

I use a Rattler quite a lot in duo wormhole PVP. Good active tank, good sensor strength and sentries for driving off ECM boats. DPS is thoroughly respectable (pushing 1000) and two utility highs are very useful for neut and RR. Lack of mobility isn't important in the types of fights I use it in - but the ability to project sentry DPS can be crucial for driving off Falcons.

Having said all that, the Rattler does feel kinda underwhelming. The Mach, Bhaal and Vindi have distinct themes that attract people. The Mach obviously has mobility, but it also has great DPS and excellent survivability, arguably more than the Rattler, which is supposed to be the tankiest. Vindi has moar DPS, Bhaal has neuts.

Still, the Rattler has a good, solid combination of attributes. If I'm throwing an expensive BS into a WH fight in support of a Proteus tackler, I need RR, a neut, the ability to suppress hostile ECM, good DPS and a solid tank. The Rattler does all this.

The Rattlesnake has probably the best sub capital ship tank in the game. The beautiful thing about it is its not a scorpion, don't try to make it one. Scorpions suck. Its used mostly as an afk mission runner and the ecm bonuses wouldn't do a thing for it in that role. Torps and Cruise missiles don't a good pvp ship make so unless you are going to change the weapon's system then don't even think pvp with this ship. Turret hardpoints wouldn't be much of a pvp improvement as things stand today since as a Caldari-Gallente hybrid ship it would certanly get Hybrid turrets.
