CCP long since stopped giving out subscriptions number after years of doing so.. I will let you think of a reason why they would do this.

Subscription and accounts powered by plex (which CCP counts as subs) plenty, there are some figures of 500.000 late 2013 just browse the net.
Individual people actually playing the game and not just skill training or running alts, a hell lot less, probably less than people played the game in 2007.

EvE has become alts online where you can divide the number of accounts allegedly online, provided by the launcher info by 3 or even 4 to get the number of individuals people or IPs.

I.E. launchers says 20k accounts online expect maybe 7k people and an army of alts that's the state of the game today.

This isn't a static thing to guess and a 60:40 guesstimate seems much more reasonable.

That'd still not be that much more than 7k,
but it's a far more realistic guess than yours.

It means that 60% of the logged in accounts are players,
with the other 40% being alts.

Jesus.. that last Official figures given by CCP was in Feb 2013 when they hit 500,000 subscribers. This included all Dust 514, Serenity as well as Tranquillity accounts.

They often use to give subscription figures in their QEN reports before they stopped them.

Since Feb 2013 they have not released any official figures. We are now in Oct 2014. Make of that what you will.

In the last QEN which was the last quarter of 2010, CCP stated there 360,000 accounts, with 725,000 different characters in-game. The average number of characters per account was just over 2 which had been stable over the years.

To the OP, I think the real question is.. Does it really matter?

If I had a nickel for every time someone said women don't play eve, I'd have a bag of nickels to whack the next person who said it..

Well, EVE does filter out the weak so it's probably for the best.

Honestly if you think that, then you dont understand the changes that are being made. The changes are going to be counter productive. The changes will produce more stagnation since people will simply park their capital fleets in their own space which will be essentially unassailable since it will be too painful for outsiders to get their own capital fleets in a position to attack the locals. Null is going to be much worse after this done.
