iMac Purchase Advice

I've found myself requiring a new system and monitor at the same time, and i'm interested in opinions of the following iMac model for gaming on EVE.

iMac 27" 3.4GHz, 16mb ram with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4GB GDDR5 card.

I do understand the whole PC custom build providing more power for the cost etc, however I do enjoy the quality of my macbook retina a lot, have little time or interest to be building my own rig's these days and really my only spare time to game is on EVE, has been for the last few years and I don't foresee anything else taking my fancy for the next couple of years either.

Anyone running a similar rig, if so would you care to inform me how it handles the game client at high/max settings? I'd only be running one client at a time and would bootcamp if required.

Assuming the iMac stay's relatively quiet but gets hot with extended gaming time.

Would really appreciate any information.

Cheers

I have an iMac with lower specs and it runs the client at highest settings great.

I am running on an 27in iMac 3.4 Ghz intel core i5 with 8 gigs of ram and nvidia GeForce gtx 775m 2048 mb.
I also have a second monitor 27 inch hooked up with the thunderbolt connection.

This machine has no problem running 3 clients all at medium to high resolution settings in eve. It never heats up over 106deg either. So it works very well.

The only problem I have ATM is the multiple client bug plaguing macs. Yes using the clone tool to make other clients but still have crashes occasionally.

I agree playing eve on a mac is the way to go with the visual quality you get, wouldn't play it any other way.

Agreed! Those 27in screen are very nice!

Imagine the next generation iMac with the rumoured 5k screen res! Shocked
I hope by then CCP give us the option to load high-res textures too!

I am running EVE on the Retina iMac. Does not look good at first. UI Scaling at 150%, resolution at 5120X2880. Everything is just so small xD

You know I suffered a great dissapointment with the iMac 27 I brought a cpl years ago when I tried to run EVE on it. ofc I bought it specifically for Design / post production but it would had been a nice side bonus to be able to run eve in it smoothly.

The Thunderbolt iMac i got also wast barred from be used as a monitor by nothing else than a MBP.

I went with the 27, 3.4GHz, 8mb stock (bought 2x8 cheaper elsewhere, so now 24mb installed) and GTX780m 4GB card, been using it for eve using the mac client for a few days now and couldnt be happier.

In general for other things i'ts spot on also of course :)

Thanks for the information provided on here
