Join a faction warfare corp asap as the specialise in frigates and small ships mostly and you can make lp which will fund pvp, i had the same views and joined faction warfare at about a mil sp and learned tons, but my funds were to buy a plex a month so i didnt need to carebear.

It is super hard to pvp when your new took me about 150 deaths before actually getting a solo kill but dont give up its just fun :)

I don't PvP myself but I know that in eve most people start out PvPing in groups. Find a corp with people that have similar interests and/or play style to yourself. Eve is full of older players willing to help newer players.

Also if you would really want to solo PvP a lot and soon and don't want to spend time learning how to make isk in game you can always buy GTC and turn it into a PLEX and sell it. If you fly cheap ships it should last you a while. I myself enjoy making isk in this game but in the words of my grandmother "to each his own".
