They're trying to make up for the "unexpected" downtimes that have been plaguing the server lately. Blink

Well we've already had a realtime update, so I'd imagine that DT's days are numbered.

Yeah about that, how does that even work? How do you update a file that's currently being used? Shocked

I guess that day will come eventually .............
... and CCP might not even announce it.

Wouldn't that be the best troll ever?

Usual messagebox one hour before ...
... half an hour before ....
... a quarter hour ....

........... five minutes count down.

Nothing happens.

Epic win!

They should continue with downtime, even if they don't have to, until the first major super-cap battle, when one side is hoping, begging, and pleading for downtime to come so that they can "safely log out" of their supers. And then it doesn't come. Five minutes after, ten, thirty, and nothing.

Then, CCP makes the announcement that they've managed to fully eliminate downtime.

Talk is cheap, but Void S and Quake L are cheaper.

From my memory the shortest downtime was in the order of four to six minutes. Being Australian I'm normally quite painfully aware of every second of downtime. But sometimes I succumb to my weakness for tea (Earl Grey, hot). It takes about six minutes to walk to the kitchen, boil the kettle and steep the leaves.

By the time I came back to the computer to catch up on forums, the game was back up and running!

One day, we'll have no downtime and Australia players will not know what to do with themselves.

lol the horror. ;)

I keep track now whenever possible,
just because I am waiting for how low they can go. (:

i think the best time to get rid of downtime is to not tell anyone. Just one day no downtime.

Yes.

CCP Falcon is completely responsible for everything related to the issues
and this single post took him all day to write, forcing him to neglect all of his other duties.

His harvard degree in everything network related should have been put to better use,
but sadly CCP only uses him as community guy and not for whatever else you believe he should be doing.

Indeed.

Newsflash!

Water consumption all over the world dropped considerably as CCP hf.,
proud producer of the biggest online universe EVE ONLINE managed to shorten downtime down to six minutes!

In other news:

People all over the world suddenly stopped showering!
Scientists are baffled about this mass phenomenon!

More news at 11!

Confirming that I typically use DT during the work-week to shower before heading to work.

Also confirming that I will continue showering at around that time during the work-week in the event of DT's removal.

I want to fly like a pirate, not smell like one.

Hehe, yes I hear that knocking out co-workers by just walking past them is not good for one's career.

Newsflash, 29th of September 2014!

CCP fails to bring up the server at their estimated time of 1300 EVE
and instead considers disappointing their playerbase once again
by booting it up OVER HALF AN HOUR EARLY!

Sept 29's reduced DT maybe be applied as 'time in lieu' for Sept 30 Blink

Perhaps if they had not rushed DT yesterday today would not have turned into a tremendous failfest.

Maybe this will work

GOD I HOPE NOT. I spend far to much time on this game, and often only have 10-20minutes a day, that well just happen to be downtime where i have to be a normal human being doing all the usual. You know; Sleeping, eating, going into town. ETC its just a same that it is 0000hours NZDT (local time) :P

The thing is the extended downtimes take much longer than the fast uptimes, so they get noticed by a much larger part of the playerbase.

At least all the threads about it shows people still want to log in and play the game though.

Also getting rid of downtime totally would be an indirect buff to nullsec security (like it even needs more).....it would be the end of the "log on fast after downtime to beat the perma gatecamp on major null chokepoint entry systems".
Add more null entry points if downtime is to go please CCP.....in fact add more even if it stays.

It's irrelevant how early early uptimes are.
People aren't thankfull for this,
because of sekf entitlement.

The same self entitlement they show when it comes to cases like now.

And you again with your ridiculous nullsec fixation...
