I am surprised to hear this is happening so late in EvE's development. It seems like CCP would have been using asset management software for some while to manage variations in texture, rigging, and modelling, but that's good to hear it's getting attention. Going to be impossible to sell aurum ship skins 'one day' without some way to reskin during design time as well as runtime.

You may want to have a look at "Production Pipeline Fundamentals" when thinking these challenges through. It's a well paved path.

I'll just point out that production pipelines such as those described in that book are concerned primarily with facilitating artist workflows, and don't have much to do at all with file formats, such as EVE's red files, that are intended for use as input to a game engine.

consider me impressed, perhaps somewhat fanboi. I'm in an introductory Maya class right now.

I'm not sure how to transition into this, so I'll just say it. "dude... our smiles though."

Thanks for the information, as long as you are streamlining:

All I really want is to paint all my ships white and paste a huge Japanese WW2 Rising Sun across the hulls.... not too much to ask right?

I like the idea of ships regardless of their racial origins being skinned the same scheme as that of their corporate builder.

I would turn down the graphics on my engine even further but I'm allready playing at the lowest possible settings. I hate my hardware being bad. High Res packs have my vote for future better hardware though. Gotta support it now to get it by the beginning of the new decade ;)

A Blood Typhoon or Cane (+1 for that) ... heck anything with great flat panels would probably look nifty as well. Actually pretty much everything probably looks good with a Blood Raider scheme - it's one of the best looking of all the schemes. Must be the fact that the colours used are rather distinct and the pattern is more organic than geometric. Oh yeah and it's one of the brightest schemes with that bleached bone/dried blood look.

Blood Legion/Proteus ... Tengu would look not so good, the pattern doesn't fit the hull aesthetics. Blood Loki could work though.

Doublepost yeah I know but since this one doesn't have a whole lot to do with the previous one:

The new fancy stations introduced in Kronos - are they handled in the same way? Because that sure would make a LOT of sense and, again, would be fancy to see crossovers. Something like a caldari corp like the Business Tribunal renting an amarrian station in Amarr HighSec - or only being allowed to build in amarrian style there. Would add some flavour.

I can actually imagine the Gallente Federation legally forcing a caldari corp to build in their style if they have no other argument against the caldari corp errecting a potentiall base for their blood-feud enemies.... and so on and so forth.

CCP Mankiller, are you perhaps coming to Twitter? There's a bunch of queries I'd love to ask regarding use of SOF with third party apps. currently I use CCPWebGL and download red files directly from CCP CDN.
