Developing my fighter alt

Due to work and other RL obligations, I've haven't really been "playing eve". I've just been "training my alts". I've been making enough ISK off of selling PLEX via the buddy program that I can keep my three alts in training for a while.

This profile is my fighter alt. I got it to the point of where it's got a level one mastery of a Brutix and almost done with a level 2 mastery.

I finally had enough time to actually "play" the game so I sat down and tried to do my first mission via the military career agent path....But when I started to engage in what looked like a small frigate(this is a level 1 mission) I kept missing the target!

I got 6 250mm railguns with antimatter for ammo. I'm using medium turrets. They kept missing and missing and I was orbiting this target at like 5,000 meters so I should be hitting the thing.

Now, I haven't gone through any tutorials because I already did that a few years ago. I'm coming back from taking a 3 year brake on the game. I'm assuming a lot has changed since then so I'm going to load up in a noob frigate and just go through all the tutorials from scratch just in case I missed or forgot something.

But while I'm re-training myself how to play EvE after a 3 year brake via the tutorial system, does anybody know why my big, expensive brutix with six 250mm Railguns armed with antimatter ammo can't kill a simple little frigate?

Because long range guns have bad tracking and medium weapons have issues tracking small targets. Try blasters and a web. Or even better, a flight of light drones.

You could also switch to a destroyer. They use small sized weapons and are generally good for murdering frigates.

Would be a good idea to read this.

ur using rails and orbiting too close.

use blasters if u want to get that close

There's your problem.

That's blaster range. Rails are long-range weapons. Their tracking is terrible. You were orbiting so close and so fast that your guns couldn't track the target.

250mm rails should have an optimal somewhere around 20-30 km. Try shooting from that range.

question: .... and I mean this in a constructive way, not a cynical way.....

have you ever gotten in your brutix and fired your guns at another RL player?

... the reason I'm asking this is because it is often times not the character but the player BEHIND the character that needs development.
