Texture and monitor resolution

I finally updated my monitors and got a new graphics card to drive them. However I was a little disappointed when I zoomed too far in on battleships, etc.

I thought a bit and wondered why not deliver the textures in vector format, and as part of installation or configuration pick a resolution that could expect good performance on the local hardware and render a bitmap.

Another thing, perhaps map the vector images themselves. There seems to be some work in that direction, as witnessed:

But then I have to ask if everything would look cell shaded.

And this has something to do with the Eve API and third party development how?
