Just got through with watching my last Guy Ritchie movie - Rock and Rolla and wondered....

Would the movie loving lot amojng you class GR among Capolla and Scorsese ?
To me Rolla was the least cohesive movie but a riot nonetheless, he also has a habit of making London look like somewhere south of California.

Im not sure, but i think his movies are about the best ive seen in many many years and the guys gone quiet for a while.

What does the OOPE crowd think of Guy Ritchie ?

I love Science, it gives me a Hadron.

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels was pretty good.

Sherlock Holmes was really good.

Everything in between was awful.

Snatch was entertaining, if a bit canned, and Revolver was a trip even if I'm not in a hurry to watch it again. I'd put him in the same tier as Christopher Nolan: brilliant but not quite legendary.

Not even close, Lock stock and Snatch were good, everything he did while he was married to madonna was shite, Sherlock was a pleasant surprise looking foward to 2 myself.

Not as good as Nolan either for my money.

He produces absolute trash. I have no idea how you could even think he is in the same league as Coppola / Scorsese.

His movies are generally decent for a good watch. Unfortunately, once you've watched one, you've literally seen them all, and by the time I got to Rock and Rolla, or whatever it was called, I was supremely disappointed to see what had originally been an amusing and fairly original plot repeated for the third or fourth time.

He's alright, but he's no Scorsese.

I liked Snatch and Lock Stock a lot.

However, if he was as good as people thought he was, Sherlock Holmes would be just as entertaining as it was, but leaving Sherlock as the cerebral hero he's supposed to be, not some action figure.

Don't get me wrong, they are entertaining movies, but I expected so much more for Sherlock. Like epic mystery mind**** that hurts your head but makes sense at the end and you have to watch it 3 times to understand what Holmes figures out.

Interesting to see I'm not alone believing Nolan, like GR is a guy that makes movies that are great, yet when you see past the movie and into the director, you realize all you see from him is all you get.

I loved Inception, but somehow in certain parts you can feel the blandness of a huge solid brick, if you can understand what I mean.

Same with GR , except Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels was for me his Inception, don't think he can top that for a while.

Only director I truly enjoy in the genre is Scorsese, to this day eveytime I catch say, Casino for example in tv I sit through it, no matter how many times I have seen it, besides I truly enjoy watching Joe Pesci freaking out.

In a matter of direction though, best directors for me are David Cronenberg, David Lynch and Stanley Kubrick.

Even to this day I haven't seen anyone capture that fastidious yet fully intentional feeling of empty space in a shot like Kubrick that was his trademark, and both david's have amazing camera and actor work. Specially David Lynch, I still can't believe I have never met a woman like one in the works of Lynch, such bliss on his portrayal of them, and not just physical beauty, he made them something sublime, to the point of watching one smoke or just BE was like watching porn.

Back in topic tho, I think GR is a bit like a beer with friends, you enjoy the moment, drink it, talk and have a good time, then the pub closes.

This, pretty much. Snatch was good, haven't seen the Sherlock Homes yet.... but although they look decent they definitely don't convey a workmanship like a Scorcese.

Holy Satanic Christ! This is a Goddamn Signature!
