are they oil or acrylic?

op,
from one artist to another, there are better (and easier) ways to do starsBlink.

take white paint, thin it out ( to varied opacity's so achieve varied strength stars )
take a tooth brush ( either an old one of yours or one of someone you hate)
place canvas flat on the floor
dip bristles in paint
hold brush over canvas with thumb like so.
run thumb along bristles till in this position.
obviously this should be done at 90 degrees from the images.

this gives a big spray effect that will settle onto the canvas and creates gorgeous stars, takes a bit of getting used to but is well worth it.

lovely nebulae though +1 would like to see more

Maybe more hues for stars? From blue to red according to its life-cycle and size?

Remember that whenever you have a bad day in EVE, the correct reponse is "Thank you CCP, may I please have another?"

I feel like that may overcomplicate things, possibly to the painting's detriment. Different color stars may detract focus from the (very nice) nebulas.

To the OP, keep it up! I really liked the Caldari and the last one. The only thing I would add regarding the last one was I personally found the transition from the other colors to the Gallente green one a little jarring. That may just be me though, so take it with a grain of salt Blink.

Do the Bleak Lands now! Oh, or maybe some wormhole nebulae? First time I went into a C1 or C2 wormhole I felt like I was swimming in Van Gogh's Starry Night.

Grrr.

Actually, once you have the stars done you can use a realy watered down ink to give one or two of them a tint, the trick is not going overboard with it.

Fantastic work OP.

Since the CCP art depth has been slacking on it, how about an oil on canvas Unsuccessful at Everything riding a tiger while holding a subway sandwich (with pickles)? Loincloth is optional.

Yes, just yes. If you haven't gotten anyone else to do it by the time I get my digital **** sorted I might have a go.

Eve is rated for 12 and up, loincloth is not optional in this case.

For making great planets and moons you'll want to use a round stencil. Can be anything from a simple glass or bowl to self adhesive cards that you can paint over then pull off.

Anyway, a fine start and good luck with it!

I have removed some rule breaking posts and those quoting them. As always I let some edge cases stay.
Please people, keep it on topic and above all civil!

The Rules:
5. Trolling is prohibited.

Trolling is a defined as a post that is deliberately designed for the purpose of angering and insulting other players in an attempt to incite retaliation or an emotional response. Posts of this nature are disruptive, often abusive and do not contribute to the sense of community that CCP promote.

I suggest using imgur to host the pictures, it plays nicer with both in and out of game browsers :P

What a great theme to choose for a project. I love some of the texture you have got from your nebula.

But I think you could be bolder!

Check this link- or find something similar. NASA has some great images on their site.

http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/archivepix.html

I think your stars are too evenly placed and you could add some of those larger ones in the foreground that are not part of the same nebula. As a previous poster said you could add hot old stars in redder shades and blue younger ones to add effect. I realise some of these images are colour enhanced , but I really think this would add something, especially in acryllics.

Good luck and keep at it!

The nebulas look good. The stars look wierd. Should fade them from the edges of the nebula.

Great to see someone with another hobby besides playing Eve. Keep at it and just remember, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. What matters is what you think.

Anyway, here's an idea -

After you have done your background (space color), randomly splatter some stars across it, then add in the Nebula followed with a bit more splattering of stars and then lastly add Planets.

Also the painting doesn't have to be really detailed. Sometimes less is more, like this screen shot I call :

my painting experience is only practical and not artistic. but i must say you do some good work. the only one i can criticize is the 3rd or "planet" one. the outline doesn't work too well as others have mentioned, but also the color of the planet itself. it seems to fade into the background in spite of the heavy outline. you mention in your OP that this is an "early attempt" at a planet. try a planet that stands out boldly from its background. practice this a few times and then advance from there. perhaps a planet of bright greens and blue on the day side as it transitions to the dark night side. now that i think about it that is more challenging than a straight up day side or night side planet. the bottom line is that you have identified planets as your weakness and several others have pointed to nebula as your strong point! practice the planets and build from there. you have talent.
