There is a method to saving visual data of spaceships. It is very interesting and worth explaining, especially since that method is changed and improved. To introduce The Space Object Factory and what it means down the road, CCP Mankiller (eep) has written a dev blog.

You should read it!

It got a bit technical but it was worth it! What do you guys think?

This reminds me of switching from hand-rolled HTML web pages to CSS style sheets, seperating the content from the presentation.

Does this mean there will be an end for all the hundreds of files,
and instead you will consolidate everything into a single one?

Because that would be much more friendly to harddrives and SDDs....

all you need now is to be able to store metadata for ship hulls and we can have more ship skins beside other neat things like ship producer names etc.

edit: would be curious how this would look with HD textures :P

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value
