Hi,

I sse alot of Dominix fit to sentry drones, with Drone Link Augmentor.

Why, is Drone Link Augmentor not only for the range control?

Hi there!

We use the DLA to let the sentry's hit up to targeting range.
Since drones can only attack things within Drone Control Range, which is 75km with all 5's (could be wrong here).
You want to use the DLA for sniping fits. so your drones can hit up to about 100km :)

Hope to have answered your question here!

Although the Sentries can hit out to (in the case of Wardens particularly) very long ranges and their own targetting range is effectively out to the hard cap; they will only engage targets which are within your drone control range.

As your drones have to be within your drone control range for you to give them commands this means that the maximum engagement range for sentries without modules is 120km (Drone Avionics [5] + Advanced Drone Avionics [5] = 60km Drone Control Range) with your ship 60km from the target and 60km from your drones.
More usually however, particularly in a battleship, the preference is to sit close enough to your drones to be able to scoop them and therefore the drones are effectively range limited by your drone control range. Thus, by fitting DLAs, you expand your the engagement envelope of your drones.

As the previous poster suggested, a couple of DLAs can push your engagement range out to 100km (or more), allowing a drone ship to engage almost immeiately after MJDing.

An all V character has a 60 km drone control range. In many missions, the NPC's start out well outside of this range, and fitting a DLA allows your drones to start shooting the NPC's while they approach. This is especially effective against frigates, which sentry drones have a very difficult time tracking once they are within 20 km's.

That sum is not true actually. Max drone range with skills is 60km, everything at 5. Period. If your Battleship have 85 km of target range it means you can lock target at 85, but your drones only obey orders after targets get closer than 60km.
Some sentry drones have target range greater than 60km. In that case they will attack back any enemy that aggro them (if drones are in aggressive mode), even if this enemy is far than 60km. Anyway you still are unable to give orders to that sentry drones, aside from make it stop shooting.
Therefore, DLA will increase the drone range and enable you to fully use your drones inside that range. For example, it is very common to fit 2 DLAs in a Sentry Dominix, in order to reach 108 km drone range.
