Advice for DED

Hi all,

I've been running missions and exploring for my career so far, but I would like to branch out into the DED complexes, however, I dont like the idea of bringing two ships eveywhere I go, so I'd like to have and fit a ship that can scan down the sites, and would not suffer so much from the loss of a high slot.
That limits me to drone boats as far as I can tell, im open to suggestions if i'm wrong, can a drone boat be used successfully to run DED's? what sort of skills will I need? I was looking at the arbitrator and then onto the pilgrim, I prefer the hulls of these ships over the gallente boats, due to the looks of them. Would I have to train up armor tanking for these? I am caldari and trained for flying a drake in l3's with no problem.
Any and all advice/fits would be greatly appreciated.

The Stratios is all but built for what you want. Drone ship, built in scanning bonus, capable in combat, can shield or armor tank....

Spending more obviously gets you quite a bit more performance but last I checked those faction drone mods aren't cheap.

In any case, you should also consider the option of whatever ship you like to fly plus a mobile depot. You can fly around in a scan fit and then switch to a combat fit on the fly. There's really little need for two ships anymore (unless you need a real scout in low/null to move around a marauder or some such).

Thats perfect, cheers, what level of DED sites will I be able to run in that? or will it be 4/10 max?

The highest level of DED Rated site available in high security is 4/10 site.

The site will vary in difficulty depending on it's Faction type.


The same goes for unrated combat sites with Vigil being the highest level site available in high security.

Unless you go to lowsec, 4/10 is the max anyway.
It won't be able to do the 1/10 or 2/10 as those gates won't let it in. 1/10 is frigate only iirc, 2/10 is frigate/destroyer.

Correct, T3 Cruisers are no longer allowed access to DED 4/10 and lower sites.

You could always consider training for a Sacrilege if you're already considering Amarr hulls and possibly training armour. It has a great tank/DPS and uses missiles with a spare high slot for a probe launcher. Granted it won't scan as fast as the Stratios but it will easily complete a 4/10. Also the hull is half the price of a Stratios. Just some food for thought.

I use a Sacrilege, because of its spare high slot which I fit with a probe launcher... I use HAMS btw.
