Just in case some newbee reads this topic:

1. plagioclase is not in 0.8 or safer space - it is in 0.7 or lower. You need to go to Raneilles from Clellinon to mine some.
2. exploration tutorial gives you some useless civilian amnalyzers, which can (and should) be reprocessed to get those minerals.
3. Proper way of doing the tutorial is to buy missing minerals, just like any real industry char would do. Mining your own ore is not main source of minerals for properly set industry account.

0.8 or lower.

It's not found in 0.9 or 1.0 security. When I mine (very occasionally now), I do so in a 0.8 system and there's plagioclast in the belts there.

That's fairly common in how EVE works. Given goals, not exact steps that must be taken.

Although the career agents don't really help to make that clear with their earlier mission to mine from a specific location. :-/

I have done the tutorials a few times over the years .. but there is no way for me to do them without all the knowlesdge i have accumulated .. so i really cant know what you are going through.

if its of any help .. i will say on my first day of playing i undocked and flew straight for 5 mins before figuring out how to do anything with my ship.

There is so much to learn in EvE .. it is a hugely complicated game .. but that is what makes it so rewarding.

It doesnt make sense now .. and each new tutorial is going to add new things and take you out of your almost non existant comfort zone... but thats the way of EvE ..

Keep asking questions, add the main eve Help channel, (if you dont know how then google the answer - get used to googling for info)

Do worry about jumping into other systems you can use your Assetts Button to find out where your "home" system is .. the one where you have your "stuff" for now.

The map is an amazing tool to show you all sorts of info .. from the Security Level of System, to ones with agents you can access, to pilots in space to how many ships got blown up. there are so many layers info .. you can spend a long time studying it . What you need to use it for now is (A) Security Level (to know where to go or what to avoid) (B) Station Services. So you know which has medical, repair, research etc..

When in doubt right click.

Dont give up because its hard. The tutorial doesnt so much show you how to do stuff .. as opposed to show you some of the things you can do, and in doing so get you to teach yourself how to do stuff.

Because EvE is as complex as it is .. the tutorial can not hold your hand too much .. it needs to begin to foster in the player a sense of having to research, ask questions, think, record, read, ask more questions and to just try stuff.

Eventuallly when you finish the tutorial i would suggest joining EvE University ,.. i think it would be a good place for you to start your EvE carreer off .. well structured training corp / alliance with years of experience and helping people find their way in EvE.. also there web site is an amazing resource .. find it and bookmark it sooner rather than later.

Good luck and dont give up .. the game being a challenge is a good thing ..

History is the study of change.

Well worded and great advice.

Too add to the last sentence, EVE is the first and only game so far that I play for 4 years straight...and still I'm never bored or came anywhere near a point where I thought: "Okay, I know it all now, I'm done."

That's the beauty of EVE in my opinion, it's hard (well, it starts extremely hard and then flattens out once you get to know the basics) but rewarding. And with CCP releasing even faster now, it's an ever changing landscape in the sandbox as well as you will be competing with and against other players, so you will never stop learning new tricks and mechanics.
