Thought I would start up a discussion about this as I was talking to a friend earlier and he mentioned that he was called out to be blobbing by a guy in local.

They were a small five man gang roaming lowsec in Assault Frigs, jumped into one system where there was 14 pilots in local (not including them). They dscanned a FW site, in it was two t1 frigs and a Worm.

Assumimg it was elaborate bait, they figured they could take a few before the rest arrived and warped to it. When landing in the site, the t1 frigs warped off while the Worm burnt off at 3/4k ms. When they left the site the pilot put in local "nice blob".

This is my eyes, is not a blob. Five AFs is small gang that is often able to pick and choose their fights (sometimes fighting outnumbered).

So, has Eve really come to the point where if a group has one of two members more than yours, they are classified as a blob? What do you classify as a blob? (eve related blob please, I don't want no pictures of a Ditto Lol)

In theory, a blob is an unorganized fleet that wins through numbers rather than skill or planning.

In practice, a blob is what any group with a numbers advantage looks like through the eyes of someone with fewer numbers.

A "blob" is relative.

It can be when you are simply outnumbered (regardless of the numbers).

It can be when you are outnumbered by a large margin (1v5... 5v8... 100v200... etc).

It can be when you are ganked by lots of people.

Its possible the worm was scraping with the frigs when you showed up. He may have assumed you were friends with the t1 and possibly the other neuts in local.... hence the blob.

It's a well known fact that the opposing side is always a blob when they beat you.

If you happen to be on the winning side, you weren't flying in a blob, it was a well-organized tactical fleet with lots of participants.

7.2 CAN I AVOID PVP COMPLETELY? No; there are no systems or locations in New Eden where PvP may be completely avoided. --Eve New Player Guide

Cheers for the replies. I guess I kind of didn't really see it as a 'depending on the perspective of each fleet' kind of way. I just found it amusing that my mates fleet was classified as a blob with only five pilots.

The point you make about the worm pilot potentially thinking they were back up is also something that hadn't crossed my mind.
I'll have to ask if he knows if they (the t1 frigs) were with the Worm pilot or not.

I don't PvP, I never really got into that side, so I can't talk from experience. So if this is the case is it just the other group being sour about losing? It just strikes me as odd how five people can be a 'blob'.

I suppose it's a matter of perspective.

I haven't read anything but I know that everyone is wrong. This is a blob.

It's any opposing fleet that has numbers of: (your fleet) + 1

If they have even one more ship than you do, they are dirty blobbers.

Some people opt to call "blob" when they get excited about a possible fun fight then are let down by the realization that the enemy has more numbers than they thought. Since "blob" is a derogatory term, it is used in a cathartic way, same as when someone curses upon stubbing their toe on their desk.

In other words, they may have seen one, then two assault frigates, gotten excited about a fight, then seen the rest of you and felt let down and bitter about missing out on a good fight, so they took it out on you verbally. Don't take it personally.

No no not at all, when I was on TS with them as they were telling me, it didn't bother them. It was more, I was curious as to what other people classified as a blob due to it kinda not making sense to me that they were a blob. Perspective and the fact they probably outgunned the other fleet so the other guys cussed is probably correct.

Simple curiosity on my part I guess.

they made a whole movie about it called "The Blob"

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

Let me if I may add that being in say a large fleet 100 ships for example. that would be a blob if you will, and then opposing forces would show up that would have a larger number. In my experiences so far being in a fleet of such a size and even the latest I been in numbered over 200, thats a blob.

It's really intimadating when you show up in large numbers and you get called out in local "OMIGAWD! A BLOB" LOL, but anyway I would say around 50-100 is a baseline as far as what a blob would be considered as.BlinkBlinkBlinkBlinkBlink

To me a blob is when someone is doing a 1v1 and one of them lights a cyno and drops a carrier fleet on your frigate. But it is meant as a derogatory term that is supposed to affect your eHonor. If I remember correctly the term started during the first great war with BoB at least that is when I first heard of it. Someone with a better memory could possibly explain its origins better.

Every fight that involves infrastructure is a blob. The HP wall of the infrastructure pretty much forces it on to us.

Our ships will never be balanced to mitigate the firepower required for infrastructure take down. They will melt faster than half the fleet can lock.

What's a blob? every Null Sov fight in EVE. By design.

Blobs are pretty fun. For example a blob of sentry carriers wasting cruisers

A friend and I once took out a null plex runner.

He called us 'dirty blobbers'

Therefore, any group larger than 1 is a blob.

But if I had been solo and took him out, the 'Xbox Live Law of Asshattery' states that I would be an overweight fatherless haxxor with no life and undersized genitalia.

You just cant win with people.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

No but you can blow them up and block them in chat while you giggle your way back to dock with their stuff.
