Trade Hubs

So I came back after a break when the cq hit and it seems most of Rens and Dodixie have lost some serious flow in traders and items being sold and bought.

I haven't checked the numbers this is purely based on that amount of times I have to update my buy orders which seems to be daily instead of every 10mins like it use to be.

Plus items that once sold like hot cakes and were resold seem to have no flow threw anymore.

So to my main question did these hubs die while I was away or just lack of people thanks to CQ?

I think Hek is now a bit busier but IMO things sell better in Rens.

Jita is still top of the pile though.

From what I have read there is a slump in the market at the moment but I may have misunderstood.

I'm pretty sure it's because of the level 4 agents being removed from those hubs

OP, can you quantify "lost some serious flow" - what are you thinking in percentages?

I have noticed at least a 50% drop in activity in my trading lately and that is with less competion. I don't trade at a main hubs (jita, amarr, rens, etc), I just stock litlte mini hubs. May have to move to those main hubs soon since my inventory is growing.

Hopefully this "Winter Expansion" will actually include some content besides new shoes.

I think it's fair to say that the trading landscape changed significantly outside of the main hub in each region due to the mission agent changes earlier this year.

However, looking at the market history going back a year, I can't find many items that are off more than about 20-25% from the peak. Indeed, we don't look to far off from where we were this time last year when you look at trade across an entire region.

EDIT: Have to admit I was only checking a few items in the Heimatar region - t1 minerals, BCs, exhumers etc.

I have 12 billion in assets on the market that are not selling as quickly as a month or two ago, my trade operation is going to come to a halt.

I would have to agreee there.Started trading again about 2 to 2.5 months back and while my daily profits still are verry nice the amount of sell orders used to get this daily total profit has more then doubled in the last weeks.

I trade in Rens, and I haven't noticed a dropoff aside from a few items. Granted, I have noticed more market manipulation attempts lately.

They weren't removed, they just aren't as appealing to run for since agent quality has been eliminated. Saonellieu Baerse (Dodixie) used to be one of the better agents in Gallente hi sec. Couple that with easy access to SL agents (two in station), decent agents in Aunia and Auvergne (one jump out), and easy access to Gicodel (which is now essentially dead) and Dodixie was booming. Now -- well, now everything has moved as close to 0.5 as possible, preferably with no low sec in the constellation. I'd imagine that over time that's where you'll be likely to find new hubs.

Yes I have to agree, the change in mission agents has moved some of the traffic around. I am still in the busy systems, but I guess they may have up and moved to different regions. I never really tried to monitor the actual number of pilots.

I dabble in trade as well and with the agent changes many of my trade hubs died, especially gicodel because there is no longer a sisters combat agent there. Motsu, Tash Murkon Prime, Arnon are still doing ok but the overall volume is down because of mission runners spreading out a bit because now that there is no quality one lvl 4 agent is as good as the next.

Over in Rens/Hek/Dodixie, someone messed with Pyreite and Trit. When trit was going for ~3.42 and pyerite for 4.35, someone dumped 1bil units of each at all 3 hubs for 3.35/unit of trit and 4.3/unit of pyerite.

The abundant supply caused demand to all but disappear.

This messed up a few things because not only did the buy price crash from 3.3 down to 3.05, but miners seemed to have moved on because fewer and fewer sell orders were on the market.

For about one week, I saw buy orders at 3.10 and almost no sell orders. Volume/day dropped drastically. This sudden drop in sell orders caused a short spike back to 3.3 buys and 3.4 sells, but only for some small volume. Sell orders started to come back after this spike, but once the "normal" sell/buy orders cleared out, it dropped again, but not nearly as low as the crash. Trit is slowly rebounding back up to pre-crash prices. This probably had some ripple effect for the local areas.

It's only now starting to go back to where it was.

I gather that you're describing a somewhat substantial bullwhip effect (substantial in relation to its net effect). To be honest, I'm feeling a lot of conjecture here, at least for the described order size and price that this player used.(Heimatar moves about 2bil units of trit a day for one thing), but it is possible I suppose. It's hard to come up with enough detail to support these hunches quite often (EVE doesn't provide perfect transparency afterall).

I think market manipulations and the lack of a mature or protected market is one of the very interesting and appealing parts of the game - even for those who are not direct actors in such activity. We don't have corps/players hedging long-term purchasing plans with futures contracts, or other such derivatives, and that makes the market a whole lot more dynamic, at least over short periods of time.

Just so everyone knows, im not trying to bash ccp, im actually in their corner. I want eve to evolve so i can continue to enjoy the game. Incarna could bring a lot of depth to eve.

That said,

I have noticed my trading strategy has been slowing for some time now. I feel it's because of lack of new content. I trade higher value items and feel that players are holding on to their assets because there is nothing new for them to try. Less motivation to exchange assets for isk without something recently implemented in game to experiment with.

Adding depth to eve is crucial to keeping the economy on track.
