I have been wondering recently if the rail deimos could work for very small gang fights or frig blaping in FW space. Im thinking it would work similar to an ishtar but can go armor and take a beating. Here is a fit I was messing around with:

So, with all skills level V and no shiny mods it needs a 1% powergrid implant, but I dont think thats too bad.

Now, I think it could do a good job blaping things and not getting killed, as Deimos' tend to do. It would allow it not to worry about range control and hopefully get some gf's, as thats what we all want.

The only problem I see with it is if something gets under its guns, which if its against smaller ships wouldnt be too hard at all. So I was considering, a gang of two or three Deimos' with maybe a webbing Vigi?

I havnt thought this 100% through but its an idea I just wanted to put out there as im gonna be able to fly HACs in a couple days and want to see what fits I can mess around with in low sec that isnt an Ishtar.

So, a 90% web on a frig + deimos webs, would 200mm rails be able to hit that? I would think so at least. Because in that case, thats pretty much the only thing I was concerned about sorted

You need more speed to pull off something like this, the Deimos has got some decent tank but honestly on a proper kiting fit more tank is usually not what saves you, it's either more speed or more dps. Honestly I'd just go with a Thorax for this, you have alot less tank, but you get similar or better speed and dps and slightly less projection but a tracking bonus instead. All this for like 8x less the cost.

My pyfa is being weird and not letting me export fits, but basically 250 rails + MWD/Longpoint/LSE/cap booster + 2xmagstab/1xTE/DCU/nano + 2x ACR and 1x Polycarbon rigs. Does like 500+dps to 24km with excellent tracking (for rails) as well as 2 sets of light drones for dealing with fast tackle that catches you. 3314m/s with OH speed.

In all seriousness, you need 250s. Rail deimos is good because it projects far, hits hard, and tanks very well for a kiting ship. If you use 200s you can't do that very crucial first part. Rail Deimos is not very usable for total solo as having a max speed of around 3km/s means any linked longpoint frig can permatackle you. If you happen to be a linked snaked wizard and fit a nano then you can go almost 5km/s and frigs aren't an issue if you transversal match well like the wizard you are.

With that being said, the rail deimos works really well in small logi-less armor kiting gangs because of it's good damage and sustain. You just need something like a nomen/legion. An ashimmu is optimal imo because you can get the web range of a loki (35km with FN web and heat, 47 with links) with sick neuting power while doing reasonable dps at range all while not appearing scary.

It's a super bulky fit with a huge amount of sustain. Very difficult for it to die if you aren't caught.
