Just got a mining ship from a tutorial.
How do we change ships and if I change will I lose the original ship ?

To change ships just double-click on the new ship and you'll transfer to it if you have the skills to fly it. Your old ship will remain in your ship hangar in that station and you can switch back any time.

You can also:
When docked at station rightclick on your current ship then select "Leave Ship" from the drop-down menu to "get" into your Capsule (Pod). Note: That is not strictly necessary if you just want to swap ships.

Then click onto the Inventory button on your Neo-Com (the thing on the left of your screen) (or Alt+C for a shortcut) and select "Ship Hangar"; this should bring up a list of all the ships you own. Either directly click on the ship or right-click on the one you want to board, then select "Make Active" from the drop-down menu.
Note: You might have to "Assemble Ship" first. In this case, the ship will not have any modules fitted, in this case you have to open the fitting Window (Alt+F) and your Inventory ( in this case Item Hangar) and Drag & Drop the modules onto the slots (a Mining Laser goes into a top slot, for example) to fit your ship.

Yes, before you leave your current ship open the fitting window and 'strip fittings'. This will place all your fitted equipment into your item hanger, ready to place onto your new ship.

You can also 'strip' all your fittings from the r-click menu (I think?)

Be careful you don't choose the repackage option, as if you have fitted rigs this will destroy them.

you can also move out modulrs by clicking and draging them from the fitting window

Also keep in mind that different ships have different "roles" in EVE and that sometimes that means that you have to (re)buy modules from the market.

In general it makes no sense to put a combat layout on a mining frigate, same with a mining layout on a logi-frigate (pun to old ship bonus intended) etc.etc.

Ships are tools, fit ships for a specific duty/situation and swap ships when you need to do something else or expect different circumstances then the ones your ship is build for.

All modules can be removed from a ship. Open the "Fitting" window and drag the modules from the ship into your inventory. Or, right-click the ship and choose "Strip Fitting" to remove all modules into your inventory. You can now place these modules on another ship in the same way as the first, provided they have the correct fitting capacity.

However, if you've installed any rigs (you probably haven't yet), they cannot be removed from a ship without destroying them.

Another important bit: in EVE, stations do not work like "banks" in other MMOs - their contents are not universally accessible. If you leave your ship in one station, it will stay in that particular station and you must return to that station the next time you need the ship. This applies to all assets in EVE.

I fondly remember flying my Venture into battle during the tutorials... at least until I got a Merlin.

Thanks for your help. A very active and helpful forum.
On about day 3 of the 14 day trial but so far I think I will be signing on.

Hence why I said, In general.

Nothing stops you from thinking outside the box.

I still have my bait-skiff-of-doom somewhere.
