The exact source is not really verifiable. Considering they use victimization as their main narrative for their whole agenda and the fact they work together with a PR firm which deploys somewhat fishy tactics in opinion manipulation, those threats could have all been from themselves to paint the ones they try to criticise as the deplorable individuals they want them to be seen as.

Until the authorities come up with some results in their investigation, the origin of those threats is somewhat dubious.

Not saying they were exclusively from them, the internet is filled with enough people that there will always be some idiot going overboard one way or another. It's just highly suspicious how one sided the media coverage is and how much effort is exerted to suppress any discussion of the whole topic.

Yeah, and I guess I should clarify, as I said earlier I just very quickly skimmed a couple of the linked articles. I didn't know death threats and whatnot had been made. That's just plain stupid.

Anyway, the problem with bogus "journalism" is that most people believe it anyway. Look at the macrocosm of (again)most people thinking that if they said it on TV, on "The News," we'll ffs of course it's true!"

Yes, the yellow journalist may have constructed this as a way to attract more attention (her appetite for marketing is known).


But then you find stuff like this which publishes her phone number (for example) and Occam's Razor seems to dictate that the death threat was from the type of source we all think it is from.

You realize that that hasn't actually happened, right? That's just some absurd, paranoid fantasy in which some random woman nobody had even heard of a couple of weeks ago secretly wields the awesome power to force the fifteen billion dollar gaming industry to do... something. It's one teeny step from there to faked moon landings and HAARP conspiracies.

Now the death threats, threats of sexual assault, threats to bomb public gatherings made by those you apparently support, those are all too real. Real enough and blatant enough that the FBI approached the IGDA and said "Hey, do you need our help?" There is an incredible imbalance in power here and you appear to be cheering and salivating that poor helpless Godzilla needs to do whatever is necessary to defend itself from the evil, jackbooted thug, Bambi.

I hope the term 'yellow' journalist isn't a racist term....

Actually, outside of a peanut-butter (or napalm) context I've never heard the term used at all. Must be a British thing.

As far as #gamergate goes, its more along the lines of 'insufferable feminist 'gaming journalist' (Pfffft, I know, right?) uses her position to regularly inflict her *) viewpoint on guys who just want to read game reviews. When it comes out that she fucks her way to the top, guys sick of her crap start trolling hard, and she screams 'internetRape'. Other whipped 'gaming journalists' (I really have a hard time keeping a straight face using that term....) think white knighting her will get them laid and write angry little screeds about the tyranny of male-dominated gaming culture -*)
