Firstly, thanks for providing the download.


This is a difficult video to assess. You continue to outdo yourselves with production; everything is beautifully arranged. I also liked the inclusion of the illustrations, which were well implemented. The music was also a step up from the last entry in the series. R&K deserves praise in all these areas, and I look forward to each release as much as anyone else.

So why does this video feel like a step down?

Clarion Call 4 is an awkward beast. Despite your self proclaimed vision of humbling the hordes, you've identified a tactic that appears to be virtually risk free and intensely one dimensional. I fully admire the dedication that went in to arranging these celestial punji pits, and understand why your alliance felt obliged to implement them. What I don't understand is why you thought they would make a suitable core concept for a video that lasts a hour (and feels like two).

You have built a reputation on bravery and innovation. Seeing small groups of pantheon carriers back in CC2 felt like something genuinely new. It coupled admirable research with admirable balls. This is perhaps what makes CC4 seem so jarring; the risk and panic of old gets replaced with something blunt and uninspiring. I enjoyed the first few examples, but there must have been twenty or so separate pipebombs in this video, and only the most committed demolitions expert could be expected to enjoy such a dubious spectacle.

My feelings were similar in regard to the clandestine recordings of your opponents. Whilst hearing them made me chuckle at first, their value quickly fizzled out. Are we supposed to be surprised that these victims were frustrated at your hands? Do we need to hear multiple examples of them vocally rolling their eyes? Even they sounded bored by the end of it.

Perversely, I found myself rooting for ''the Roman''. I only had to endure an hour of numbing footage, but this poor sod must have put up with it for weeks. I hope that he resurrects the R&K's spirit of old, and leads a small band of braves to victory against this bleak vision of the future.

I had high hopes for CC4, but I'd struggle to recommend it. Everything is arranged to make you look better than you probably are, from the victims of the bombs to their unintentional sycophancy over comms. For all it's noble claims, CC4 feels distinctly smug, and that's a shame.

It was an absolute joy seeing you guys in Providence and I hope to one day see more content from you guys again. Very well made video, thoroughly enjoyed it throughout. It's like watching a David Attenborough wildlife documentary on tigers and how badass they are, except David is Lord and the tigers are RnK. I love it.
