Another dumb question: getting EFT working

I swear I have fiddled around with this for a long while, and also tried to google a solution before asking here, but without success:

I want to use EFT.

I put "Nina Semiisku" into the character field.
The other two things I have to put in are:

User-Id and API-Key.

I understand I get these here:

https://community.eveonline.com/support/api-key/

What Im getting here are:

Key-Id: xxx

Verification Code: xxxx

Access Mask: xxxx

Expires: xxx

I assume that Key ID should be the User Id that EFT is asking me for, and Verifivation Code should be the API Key that EFT is asking me for. But I also tried out all other kinds of combinations. However, each time I click "connect" I get the same error message: "Chose the character to load skills from"

What the ***** **** am I doing wrong, and how can I do it right???

When you copy the codes from the API page it happens quite often that you also copy an extra blank space with it, that generally mucks up the api import. so make sure you're copy pasting it right.

Also, my EFT asks for the exact same things the API page provides; KeyID and Ver Code. You using terms like "user ID" makes me think you're using an old EFT version, make sure you have the latest (2.23.2). If you're not sure get it from here.

Yes, yes I am. Thanks for noticing.

+1 to this. It sounds like you have an old version that is still using the legacy API keys which have the 'User ID' and 'API key' entries instead of the newer API keys.

(I'm humbled by the kind and super-fast help Im getting in this forum. When I'm big, in a year or three, Ill keep watching this forum and also try to help out noobs.)

Trying to download the new version. The suggested links send me to a page that the d/l link is. That link sends you to http://dl2.junocloud.me/150n5au61mjd/EFT2.23.3.zip.html . Don't think that's right somehow LOL. Anyone have a non-corrupted link?

Looks valid to me. Use the free "slow" download option.

I do wish the author used http://eve-files.com though.

I've always found the "alternate mirror" link to be somewhat less sketchy. As a general rule, if there's more than 5 ads on a page all pretending to be a download button you should not be there. Big smile

You can also use Pyfa. It's made for multi platform use (I'm on a Macobook) but from what I understand it's more or less the same as EFT.

I can't help much with technical issues though, some of the others here will probably have a better handle on that.

Grrr.

I do believe EVE-files will no longer accept a zip if there's an exe inside of it, because I tried re-uploading it there myself after downloading it from one of those shady looking ones.

Edit: also make sure to keep this thread bookmarked for new versions: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=24359&find=unread

Speaking of EFT

Do you all have tips for how I can easily keep my ship fits files in EFT and in game synchronized without creating a lot of duplicates?
