As i read damage control unit shouldent have any penaltys....same as a single module.
Well i have passive armor resistance plate as a single only resi module and damage control unit t2 on my pilgrim.
and both those modules have a huge penalty. Why?

You need to explain a bit more, but basically resistances work by reducing the incoming damage at the proportion of the percentage, not increase by the displayed percentage.

0% base resist + 50% resist module = 50% new resist.
50% base resist + 50% resist module = 75% new resist.

Neither have a penalty, I think your problem is most probably that you don't understand how resistances are calculated. Here's a quote that explains it well from googling:

"If you have a base resistance of 30% and add a hardener to your ship that has a 50% bonus you will end up with a 65% resistance.

The 50% from the hardener is applied to the unprotected part of your ship, in this case: 100-30= 70%
The 50% plate bonus X 70% unprotected = 35% bonus

If you add more than one hardener of each type you will get a stacking penalty. Less bonus for the second hardener and even less for the third and so on."

So basically you don't just add up resistances and through this process, you can never get 100% resistance.

Resistances are not additive, worse they aren't even really mutiplicative...

There's more information out there but to save you hunting for too long let me point you to a basic explanation.

They are sort of multiplicative, but the are multiplied to the remaining damage, not the previous resist level. (A good thing to it would be a nightmare trying to fill the em shield and Exp armor gap otherwise.)
