One bowl of Colon Blow has the same amount of fiber as 100 bowls of Total!

It's interesting.

Specifically german speaking people or maybe even western europeans in general
tend to use *action* ... actually that seemed to originate from german speaking countries,
when I recall this correctly.

English speaking countries seem to stick to /me mostly.

Nowadays it's all mixed up mostly,
but in general I can say that *action* hints at german speaking people
and /me hints at english speaking ones.

Seriously interesting topic.

I'm English and on the rare occasions I RP a character I use * action * unless there's an emote that covers it, then /command (emote).

Thank you! :)

You RP?
Interesting... ;)

I think it might be a Twitch thing. :kappa: is a Twitch chat emote, and people started using it outside of Twitch even though it obviously doesn't work, and then they just started using other words instead.

I must have missed the memo, I've usually used *action* like in the old days of usenet.

German, by chance?
Also my comment you have quoted was about my observation regarding :action:. :)

Thanks for the input! :)

I prefer to just use words to express myself. For example:

Remi, because of your post I finally googled what 420 means. So many things just got clearer.

I was wondering when #Hashtaggingoutsidetwitter would start.

Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy

Help channel: Help chat - Reloaded

Public roams channels: RvB Ganked / Redemption Road / Spectre Fleet / Bombers bar / The Content Club

I noticed most people in EVE speak with colons around the most random words and its TOO funny. I want to know how they do it.

For instance this dude was in local and he was like :smith: HAHAHAHA I bet he meant the guy from Men in Black haha, that movie is hilarious. Will Smith is a great actor. Or maybe he meant Smith from the Matrix LOL, I love that guy. Matrix is a classic movie

So

How do I use colons like EVE veterans and everyone else in :EVE: , or just generally be really cool and hip in EVE

LOL XP : P :

Indeed, back in the days of Usenet and newsgroups the asterisk was used for emphasis as VDUs didn't have fancy stuff like italic fonts. I'm sure you could find a copy of Emily Postnews' Guide to Netiquette if you dig around a bit :)

Personally, on the forums I prefer *, mixed with italics when not on my mobile.

In realtime chats I go italics all the way,
because /me is stupidly limiting and does not allow for a proper experience
with my "make it feel real" technique.

:Hodor?:

The obvious colon jokes having been exhausted, I don't have a lot to contribute to this conversation except that for a very long time I have used apostrophes to set off words I wanted to italicize if a system lacked the capability.
