Automatically Pay Docking Fees

Hello everybody, my idea here is simple: include a mechanic in your wallet to optionally automatically pay docking fees.

Docking fees are a necessary mechanic in the game and I am not disputing that here - In fact, I want docking fees to be easier to pay. There are situations in which you need to dock up in a hurry, and the docking fee dialogue impedes the process of docking, even if you're willing to pay the fee. And the process is complicated further if you have alts to get safe as well.

Wouldn't it be great if you could automatically pay docking fees, and even set the maximum amount you're willing to pay? That's exactly what I'm proposing.

The setting would ideally be included in your wallet settings, which would comprise of one or two check boxes; one to turn on the behavior, and another with a text field to set a limit you're willing to pay. You would then not have to worry about one of your forgotten alts sitting in space off of the station waiting for you to accept the docking fee you've accepted hundreds of times before.

This behavior would be completely optional and disabled by default.

And allow me to preemptively address some concerns. This space will also be used to address any other concerns that come up from this thread for consolidation's sake.

Couldn't this be taken advantage of? I don't want to automatically pay an outrageous docking fee.

The mechanic would allow for players to set a maximum docking fee they're willing to pay, if a docking fee exceeds the maximum amount set, the dialogue for paying the docking fee would appear as it does now.

This idea is needless. The game has survived this long without this feature, and will continue to do so.

Under that mentality, no further improvements should be made to the game. In addition, automatic payments have precedent already; consider automatic pay settings for corp wallets to automatically pay market fines as well as rental, broker, war, and sovereignty bills.

Docking fees? What are those? I don't have any where in [insert null region here] ( ̄ω ̄)

Yes, docking fees exist, and while this may not be a feature impacting you, is that a reason not to support it?

I had completely forgot docking fees existed. Still makes me kinda giggle.

I think this (autopay docking fee) feature would only be inline with the rest of the way things work if we had personal wallets.
Like the auto pay for office rent, you set it up to use a specific wallet.

Rather than mess with the docking fee per instance, maybe the change should be introducing docking permits, which allow docking for a certain period of time? I dunno. This feature is soo rarely used i fret spending much time thinking about it, let along having devs work on it.

I had the idea myself and debating whether or not to include it, but I kept things simple in order to foster this type of discussion. Glad I'm not the only one who's got these ideas though.

I am 99.99% sure that docking fee's are a percentage amount based on the insurance/mineral values of given ships.

If I could set a maximum of that percentage I would be pretty happy, especially given the number of times I have had to stop and accept the fee payment before being able to dock while hungry looking interceptors and interdictors start to land on me.

Docking fees are calculated from a base ISK per cubic meter of volume your ship occupies by the owner of the station.

It was my first-ever trip to Provi, so I can't say for sure but I would imagine it was right around when they lost their space and had to have it given back to them.

If docking fees will be in Jita, I'm 100% agree with this. Big smile

Lady Areola Fappington:  Solo PVP isn't dead!  You just need to make sure you have your booster, remote rep, cyno, and emergency Falcon alts logged in and ready before you do any solo PVPing.

Huh, another good reason to use SoE ships then...
