MO class Destroyers...

Recently I've read a discussion about bringing mines back into the game to hunt cloaked ships. The fist idea was stupid, but the second was a good idea. So then I started thinking about and did some research and came up with an idea. Hopefully the forums won't bug out again, as this will be the 2nd time I wrote this... *sigh*

A little history lesson first. Before and during WWII the Soviets developed a submarine hunting class ship. Called "MO class small guard ship" Which was a dedicated submarine hunting ship. It was a success and hundreds of these ships were built with many variations.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MO_class_small_guard_ship

A simple look at EVE's ship classes and one will see that all areas have many ships types and classes with various roles.... Except the Destroyer class. So why not another Destroyer class ship?

It's small, agile, has good firepower, and is generally the anti-frig ship. So lets extend on that idea shall we?

How could a ship hunt cloaked ships in EVE?

Use a similar system that's currently used. Instead of having a cable dragged behind the ships emitting a signal, have the ships emit the signal, similar to sensor boosters. Using this and the ship scanner, the destroyer would "scan out" cloaked ships using a degrading system. The closer the cloaked ship is to the scanning ship the better the results.Similar to scanning anomalies. You cannot "see" the ship in space when you get a hit, but you can lock onto it.

Let's also say that you cannot get a 100% hit to get a lock or direction to where the ship is? A similar idea to the logi can be used. You can use several of these destroyers to chain up (like cap and energy transfers) and scan out the cloaked ship to "triangulate" a position of the ship and gain a lock.

This can have many applications in several aspects. mainly wars and enemy scout hunting.

This is just an idea to throw out there, many people will like this and other will flame it. But in either case, this is a solid idea that something hopefully will be built out of it...

I kinda like this idea. Life in wormholes would become easier and the spies will have to always be on the move to not get caught thus eliminating afk cloakers.

However, i am a bit afraid to make it too easy for destroyers and not enough for spies and explorers. The latter must not be eliminated because of this though. This is just to add a mean for the system owners to defend themselves against them.

By putting it on a destroyer hull, it makes the target selection for this ship very small. It would certainly not be OP for any kind of solo hunter to fly, and if scouting a gang... teamwork is what EVE's all about, so yeah.

Supported.

It'd certainly be very good at killing stealth bombers, which is a plus. Supported.
