Hi, are rockets considered a guided missile?

Do they need the skills to support them?

Thanks.

No rockets are not guided missiles so the skill Guided Missile Precision does not effect them (I assume that's why you ask). All other missile support skills do effect them.

The non guided missiles are Rocket, Heavy Assault Missile, Torpedo, Citadel Torpedo.

This was changed. The skill "Guided Missile Precision" affects all missiles now.

This is as correct as DD are AoE weapons.

Aka ancient and outdated info.

All missile support skills apply equally to all missiles:
* Missile Launcher Operation
* Missile Bombardment
* Missile Projection
* Guided Missile Precision
* Rapid Launch
* Warhead Upgrades
Note that none of these skills apply to bombs, as they are not missiles.

Rockets, and all short-range missiles, are still considered "unguided". Hence they tend to be less precise, with a larger explosion radius than "guided" missiles, and a shorter range (less sophisticated guidance systems).

However, like all short-range weapons, they do more damage than long range "guided" missiles (more sophisticated guidance system, and more fuel, means less room for the warhead).

Once upon-a-time, "unguided" missiles were treated differently than "guided" missiles, but CCP has simplified things (for both players and in the software code) by making everything apply to all missiles equally. Notable past exceptions, were explosion radius "rigor" rigs and the Guided Missile Precision skill (see above, CCP didn't want a counter to the explosion radius). The skill name should probably have been changed.

CCP hates exceptions in code, as that tends to make for messy and potentially buggy code.

Example: Recently, drones underwent a similar overhaul to remove exceptions, so that drones are now all affected equally by drone support skills.

Be aware that most of the info you find outside the game is likely outdated!

Though not mentioned in the patch notes, rigor rigs were also changed to apply to all missiles.
