That's right I said "Kresh Trees"...

I'm working on another short story set on Caldari Prime, the problem is:

You don't really have much of a write up on these living things that manage to sustain a race of people on a planet for a very extented period of time. (They revere the 'Heart-ot-the-Forest' as part of their culture)

I was looking for any information anyone might have on a physical description, etc...

I know most people would say that they are like trees on Earth, but the problem is, plants don't all grow in the same conditions in space... There must be something about them...

I did find this chronicle which slightly hinted at them...
Cold Wind

For me as a writer, I like writing these short stories as a writing exercise; gain more discipline with the actually physical process ot typing words down. It costs me nothing and my abilities to write longer stories jumps leaps and bounds. With EVE related subjects its easy. I just use what they have available to throw together in a story. I generally don't like creating or altering the Universe; I don't create Lore. Its not the purpose of these exercises (I also don't like stepping on other people's toes; this fan fiction is all new to me)...

So with that being said, I was wanting to write something up for 'Kresh Trees' that will fit with the evironment they are apart of...

Ehm.. About the Kresh tree there isnt much on the wiki. Maybe those sites help alittle:

- Flora and fauna (NPCs)
- Caldari Prime
- Arcurio (never came to finish the page... the rest -- like "Geography & Climate" -- can be found in the Source book; which mention that the surrounding of the city are more or less Tundra.)

I would love to have those classes ingame. See here:

If the environment is similar to tundra, than this tree would be a size of a tea shrub.

If it would be somewhat warmer it would be Taiga, and i believe that would be it. In the story.

Yeah, I've already gone to those sources... there isn't much more about them... but thank you...

Hmmm....

I've been giving this some thought... here are some ideas I've come up with...

Looking at the conditions of the planet (half terra-formed and all), you would need a sturdy tree to be able to not only grow tall but offer enough protection to have other living things growing in the same area...

With atmospheric processing arrays running constantly (at least for 15 000 years), a forest of these trees would be important because otherwise you wouldn't have a natural cycle of oxygen replenishment... So one can understand why these would be important to a race living on this planet.

As for the actual tree, I haven't really speculated on what species it would most resemble but probably a Ginko mixed with a Metrosideros (pōhutukawa or New Zealand Christmas tree) (That would just be a direction to go into)

It would have:

- extremely denser wood fibers/ a hardwood (porous/ presence of vessels in fibers)
- probably would have wood that acts similar to the process of petrification without becoming brittle or physically dying (absorption of minerals into its fibers through the soil).
-Adventitious rooting/positively gravitropic aerial roots to combat soil erosion anywhere it was planted/seeded
- deep solid roots able to puncture through cracks in solid rock (or at least be able to split cracks) or permafrost soil
-gymnosperm (hemiepiphyte -ish, with tender roots taking hold of older tree roots already in the ground and becoming symbiotic)
-an extremely long undisturbed lifespan

What makes these trees unique?

- You don't see them on any other planet...

- Its ability to conduct/transmit heat from geothermal sources through its roots (which grow extremely deep in the ground) to its wood/trunk/branches. (even a few degrees would make a difference with a forest of them; perhaps thawing surrounding soil)
- Extremely efficient at 'scrubbing' the air in a limited atmosphere.
- Due to the density of the wood, even a single log would burn for an obscene period of time; burning sort of like coal

Lore wise:

Who's to say these trees weren't the reason why the original Corporation colonized the planet now known as Caldari Prime in the first place...

Or at the very least, in a planet originally colonized by the families of scientist and miners, maybe the tree was genetically engineered from its creation and would have been farmed on this planet (given the planet was finished being terra-formed) or even part of the terra-forming itself...

Those are just a few of my ideas...
