The thing I thought when I heard about this game was:

Who will NOT play a jedi ?

Not necessarily a bad deal, especially to die-hard fans of SW or sci-fi in general that only didn't bother with WoW because it was neither. But for everybody else, a resounding "meh".

The game isn't out yet but you are already sand in the vag bitter over it.Lol
Honk! Honk! All board the bitter bus to lemon town.

And here I thought I was actually magnanimous by indirectly calling it a better sci-fi alternative to WoW (implying that people that didn't play WoW before would play SWTOR, alongside quite a few people that already play WoW), even if the multiplayer product looks inferior from just about every standpoint to the positively ancient singleplayer root game (which was awesome, back 8 years ago)
And yes, 8 years is ancient in computer terms, that's at least 4 or 5 major generations of hardware.

I've been in beta for months now up until it closed Sunday night...

To answer your question, sure, Consulars/Inquisitors are popular (and some think OP) but the Knights/Warriors are struggling something fierce - at least in the eyes of most players who tried them. While I liked my Guardian, I don't think it's nearly as epic feeling as my Sage. The current feeling is that Sentinels/Marauders are extremely underpowered and far too easily killed. BW made some changes towards the end of beta in an effort to beef up Sentinels/Marauders but they still seem to be lacking oomph.

Troopers/BH are really popular, and there are a ton of smugglers/IAs running around. I'll be honest, while I only really tested the Republic side, I was loving my troopers. They're fun to play, I was enjoying the story, and a lot of people are giving Vanguards/PT the edge over Guardians/Juggs for tanking in PvP.

So... while I am one who has to have a jedi, there are a lot of people finding the non-jedi classes to be really entertaining.

Bounty hunter in the house.

The only reason I'll also roll a Jedi Knight is because T7 is AMAZING.

I preferred Kira really over T7... My opinion may have been different had I played my sentinel more, but as a Guardian, I didn't need T7 tanking for me and I loved Kira's damage output. I called her murder machine lol.

Well, it seems we EVE folks aren't the only ones who have to deal with dev controversy and forum rage threadnaughts...

It appears that there are issues for folks who pre-ordered the CE version of the game (the $150 version that comes with a statue!). People ordered, thinking that they'd have a grace period from the end of early access until their physical copy arrived in the mail, say from Amazon. Well, as of tonight, the stance has been changed and there will be no grace period.

To further complicate matters, many folks who ordered through Amazon (and others honestly) have had their shipping delivery estimates... moved back several days. Some who ordered on the 21st of July (day 1) and thought they'd be getting the game on release day (Dec 20th) are now seeing delivery as late as the 29th. One person who ordered the CE through Walmart got an updated delivery estimate of Jan3.

Note, it seems Amazon, Walmart, and others will be shipping the standard edition in advance of launch day. This seems to only be impacting the CE version. Several of these online retailers are specifically stating that EA has expressly forbid the early shipping of ONLY the CE - at least that's what is being reported by customers on the forums.

So, early access ends on Dec 19th, and come the 20th, many of these CE folks will be unable to play (lacking their retail keys) for days, possibly weeks or more. Tempers are running hot as you may well be able to imagine lol. It's important to again state, that the no-grace period stance was announced... tonight. Previous statements made clear that there WOULD be a grace period to allow for retail copies to filter through the mail at holiday time.

Now, I'm not one to think this compares to say... $70 virtual monocles (and I said as much), but it is a real kick in the genitals for many people. I'd say this is quickly becoming the TOR forum version of Incarna rage.

Whatever, the real reason I'm posting is this:

A clever TOR forum warrior made this spoof, which is common enough I suppose lol, to describe the situation.

I present, a former leader of Germany (say until the mid 40s or so...), upon being informed his CE copy will be arriving on Dec 26th - not the 20th as he had planned:

I've read about this and it seems to be mostly/only? Amazon customers that have this issue.
As for me I'm all set as I was smrt enough to pre-order both the standard and CE editions. Oops

Also good news! Quoted from swtor's site:

"Early Game Access* for Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ is only a few days away! Starting December 13, 2011, The Old Republic will begin emailing invitations to start your Early Game Access. Invitations will be sent throughout the Early Game Access period offering rolling access to the game in the order in which you redeemed your Pre-Order Code, so be sure to check your email inbox!"

Some Walmart folks are having issues with the CE, some people are unsure about what Gamestop is doing... Honestly, people are asking about all the online pre-order retailers including Best Buy and Newegg, so it's not quite limited to just Amazon.

I went DDE, and my regular code should come on the 16th so... I'm personally not going to experience this problem. I just found it all very... familiar in an "OMG INCARNA IS THE DEVIL!!!" sort of way, and I appreciated the funny video.

However, the forum rage is high right now over there. I'm on page 69 of 79 as I type this.

Amen.

I think I said I'm not going to be impacted. I do think this is a crappy move and quite the change from what had been official policy (the grace period thing) as of August. But of course, this is Star Wars, and regardless of what you may or may not think of the game, it is drawing from the huge (and at times rabid) SW fan base. Many many many people had to have their CEs with the Darth Malgus statue and game soundtrack, and whatever else is included.

I decided on digital simply so as to make my access something easy. Assuming Verizon doesn't have a massive service outage, I'll be playing on the 20th.

I got my collectors edition today, and not for a stupid amount of cash. I got mine for the price they assumed it would go for.

Yes.. Give into your hate. It is the only way you can destroy me.

Due to a silly move by EA, people outside the launch regions cannot buy the digital version and are forced to go through Amazon et al.

The forums are going to be wiped before early access begins, so this is their move now I guess. The timing is a bit suspicious though; it could have waited until Monday.

Grats. Not sure what price you paid... they assumed it would go for $150, and that's what it went for. The contents are kind of nice... for gathering dust. But it gives you something to do instead of trolling the TOR forums until early access, which is what everyone else seems to be doing.

The game is going to be hella expensive 60 euros upfront and no trial.

I didnt beta test because of the 20 gb download for the beta.

I get angry every time someone calls SWTOR plain TOR ...

TOR is like something else, much more effective too btw than playing SWTOR.

Knowing about the other TOR, you naughty boy you. Anyhow, get used to it. There are only so many three-letter acronyms to go around, and TOR is already established within the gaming community as another acronym for SWTOR, and no amount of whining on your part is going to change that. There is a little thing called "context" which helps most people distinguish one TOR from the other, but I'll gladly collect your tears Pirate
