How old are your PCs that a 40mb folder is a problem?
I bought one of the small HD's, when I had my box built, and it's still, like, 3tb....

Hard drive dolls are not realistic because the head will most likely touch the disk.

Post with your NPC alt main and not your main main alt!

I only have 1tB on mine, but it only cost me $67 and works just fine, I have no drama with loading speeds. Take that same tB and put it in an SSD and compare the price, and I'll take the 'inferior' HDD every time. This is one of those cases where you don't get what you pay. Is there an increase in speed? Sure is. Is it worth the extra cost? Hell no, because the speed you get with a regular hard drive, imo, is good enough for the vast majority of tasks, unless you're so impatient that a few seconds is actually going to give you an anxiety attack.

I thought that for a while too, until I got bored and swapped out a spindle hdd for an ssd on one of my laptops. Holy ****. Speed difference is far bigger than I expected. Really, it was like buying a brand new computer.

Immediately went and swapped all my normal drives for ssds on all my machines and set up a 12 tb nas setup for mass storage. Wins all around: much faster machines for day to day use, and fast enough for dealing with large files.

Seriously, it's worth it, even on machines that are just 1-2 years old.

Yes, SSDs are ******* incredible. A normal HDD can't even hit the limits of SATA2. SSDs go above and beyond SATA2 and 3.


Let me write it down in numbers:

Time to install Visual Studio 2013 on HDD: 15 minutes
Time to install Visual Studio 2013 on SSD: 2 minutes

Also I'm a developer of many things, I have gigabytes of packages transferring up/down daily.
