I don't go there often but was looking through the kill parade (photos) on battleclinic and felt a pang of regret for a character that looked like an old man that I most likely killed in cold blood.

Sometimes when I get hatemail from people I have relieved of their ships or ISK with a touching sob story contained I also feel bad.

I'm too sentimental for this mean game.

Killing explorers in low.

Most people doing exploring Most explorers I've killed are rather new players and aren't aware of the risks involved. The amount of times I've heard something like, "how did you just appear..." when I decloak 5km from them.

Hey guys.

Very early when I got in on this whole business of helping miners there was one corp who declared a war on my bumper/scout alts two man corp to "protect" the other miners (I think this char did not even exist back then). A few days later I killed one of their Freighters and in the battle that followed I decimated the whole corp solo 1v3 at times. In the end the score was something around 3Bil ISK vs 0 ISK (excl. ammo and repair costs from overheating).

That was ok, however then their CEO contacted me and started to negotiate for a contract so I join them because of my obviously superior PvP skills and he had big plans for his corp. So I brought in some "experts" and together we where able to get around 4bil out of this guy for various reasons and false promises (hey it's war!).

This completely shattered their whole corp and future plans and left me with the guilty feeling that I completely ruined someones game, even with the knowledge that he had originally started the war and had it coming. I think the big problem for me was that he was actually a nice guy.

I got far more ISK out of other miners with far less effort, but they insulted me the whole time during the process so it was no problem at all. The amount of ISK is never the point I guess in the end it's how the other player reacts.

Scrap that, I feel guilty for coming up with awesome ideas & being too lazy to follow them through. Although I had this great idea just today to solve that by throwing money at people to do things for me.

When I forget very basic and hard learned lessons and lose a ship because I did something utterly brainless, I feel sad and guilty.

But then I go ship shopping to drown my misery. Twisted

I rarely feel guilty, largely because I try to buzz with them afterwards, I euthanized a navy domi the other night I would have felt bad about (600+mil and it was dual tanked) but I chatted with him afterwards and he took it like a champ, might have a recruit....admittedly a derpy one but still.

Just for that, I'm going to demand that you deliver my Thanatos with a Fedo in the cargo hold.

Woah... Woah... WOAH.

Take it easy there, killer. A Thanatos is one thing. A FEDO is something completely out of the question.

You autopiloted sir. You even hesitated to say it. You obviously have a very guilty conscience and must atone for your sins.

I'll pay for the fedo. Of course we will have to arrange for me to insert the said Fedo into the thanatos's cargo hold. Feel free to contract me the ship so that I may ensure this is done properly.

My fedo still wont come out from under my bunk. Still staring and shaking. I'm pretty sure I've done something I should feel guilty about, probably during a whiskey induced blackout.

When I was living in a wormhole I killed a lot of people who were not expecting it, and didn't like it. Some had a good sense of humour, some did not......

Of all those only one sticks in my mind. I went to Querious and crossed a miner in a faction fit ship. It was one of the more expensive kills I've ever made and the most expensive mining ship I've ever seen.

His corp mate convo'd me the day after and told me that my attack was the straw that broke the camel's back. The guy rage-quit EVE. I felt badly. I'm richer than God and I would have gladly given him the isk to buy a new ship (provided he was willing to listen to some advice). I just wanted the kill. For years this has troubled me.

An ex-corp mate of mine does not have that problem. He was proud to be one of the few in EVE who has a "corp" kilmail. He and his corp harassed and attacked another corp to the point that they disbanded. It is his crowning glory. He didn't just PVP a man. He PVP'd (and won) against an entire corp!

I've always viewed EVE in a similar way to a boxing match. By getting in the ring (logging in to EVE) you ought to know what you are in for and crying because you get punched and lost the fight is just so much crocodile tears.

That being said very young players I suspect are actually new and not alts I will pass over and leave them to whatever they are doing. You can often tell new players from alts by what they are doing and their skill or lack thereof at evading attempts to catch them. I may have very few objections to blowing up whatever I can catch In EVE but baby murder is beneath me.

Getting back to the boxing analogy you should feel bad if you get into the ring intending to injure your opponent whether you succeed or not but causing an injury by playing hard and to win is not something to feel guilty over. You should feel bad for the injured person but guilt requires intent. I don't log in to ruin anyone's game but given the nature of EVE it can't be helped, some will take the game too seriously and will get angry when they suffer a loss. For me it's not personal now and never has been, it's just EVE, I'm playing hard and to win and if you decide to let that ruin your day I can't help it. As I said earlier you ought to have known what you were in for by doing what you were doing and you will only find me in low sec anyhow so it should be obvious what could happen.

I will also refuse to scam for ships or ISK or do something like create a courier contract to low sec then attempt to gank the person who takes the contract, nor will I clean out a corp hangar I've been given access to and I wouldn't do it even if I was leaving corp. I have no real explanation for why these things are unacceptable to me but I won't do them and would feel pretty badly about myself if I did. Somehow in my mind violence = fine, underhandedness = shame. It should also be noted that attempts to be underhanded make me feel weak.

Reality has an almost infinite capacity to resist oversimplification.

I have been in a Drake before Oops. And also when we kill a few weeks old nubcake moving all his T1 stuff in a badly fitted ship. Don't tell any one, but in most cases I send them a mail with a proper T1 fit for his new ship and some isks to buy it.
