so CCP lost 44 mil in the last 18 months on R&D?

there appear to be reports circulating stating a new game has been scraped and in the last 18 months eve lost 44 million bucks on R&D yet only makes about 6 million or less a year???

is there an existing discussion about this? is there official news?
what got scrapped?
should I just "not worry, it will be all right?"

is this just propaganda from the RSI people?

There was that big "write off " awhile back... perhaps thats part of what you're hearing ?

Otherwise, just look back at the various stupidities in the last few years.

Yes. That is the bulk of the amount the OP is talking about.

When you look at it that way, they actually have a pretty decent net gain, once they cut out all the pork.

The link says $22.8 million loss and your topic says $44 million.

"Somewhat different numbers" is a nice way of putting it.

I wouldn't me surprised if this websites 404'd tomorrow and never came back up. Most lemonade stands I've seen are managed better than CCP

In the 6 month finaical report, which was poste din another thread, and can be found here:

Which the source is a reddit post.

So take that for what it is. Says roughly that ccp made 36,452,422 for the first 6 months of 2014, which is down from last year. (36.6m roughly)

They had a an operation loss according to the document of roughtly 28m.

Most in RnD which is the finaly parts of the WoD closing that they finished around fan fest.

So techically ccp is only down around 200k for the first 6 months. the rest is rnd and administration cost.

its a combination of killing WoD which will cost money, it actually cost a lot to fire someone.

And the writing off of 8 years of RnD work (which cost a lot of money over time)

And the closing of an expessive office (lets face it, SF has HIGH rent, it was prolly rented for the marketing guy, and as he was quitting they dumped it)

And the tail end of closing un used depts.

Honestly, CCP is sitting on a decent ip in the form of WoD, and if they REALLY get in trouble, could prolly spin off white wolf or lease out the WoD ip.

But a 200k or so loss in game rev int he same 6 month period, really is not that big a deal

300,000 users x $15 per month x 12 months = $54million per year.

there are a few simplifications and assumptions in there, but should be a decent ballpark figure.

also that seems like a high figure for a WoD and/or Dust 514 write off, but hey, probably helps them on the taxes in a nice way, and I have no idea what it really takes to finance a game on that level.

Im just gonna say, as someone whos having to take Accounting as a supplementary class in college, that all you people who can stare at a balance sheet and make out whats going where, applause. That stuff gives me a migraine and I used to calculate math for trips to the moon/mars using an apollo-era rocket for fun.

Well it seems the servers are still up, so I think I'll leave the financial issues to CCP and concentrate on playing the game.

When the server doesn't come up anymore, then I'll have a meltdown. The forums better still be open then. My thread-naught is going to be epic.

Try working for an insurance company some day. Be prepared to hate yourself in fairly short order though.
