The beginning of the End of Downtime?!

I did not find any reference on these forums about this tweet posted by CCP Erlendur earlier this month...
Better late than never, I guess.

CCP is working in the background to eradicate down time, and this is great news, even if there are many steps remaining...

This may not be so much the end of downtime, as it may be a way to deliver quick fixes without having the players wait a day to get it.

It never ceases to amaze me how people interpret things. "Today we patched outside of downtime" =/= "we're getting rid of downtime." If they were getting rid of downtime they'd say, "we're getting rid of downtime." I don't know, maybe they are, but because they haven't said so explicitly, neither do you.

I know all this sounds kind of trivial, but this is exactly the reason science denial exists - people who 'reinterpret' things or derive a meaning from them that doesn't exist based on what they think the words mean, or by adding their own to give it a new meaning that it never had, or whatever.

Apart from he said "CCP is working in the background to eradicate down time, and this is great news, even if there are many steps remaining..."

Which is also what CCP have said multiple times on Devblogs and at Fanfest: http://community.eveonline.com/news/dev-blogs/death-to-downtimes/

Quote:
We will continue our efforts on reducing daily downtime, until we reach the ultimate goal of no daily downtime, I'll leave you with these graphs that show you the road towards no daily downtime.

Ironically you're the one who has done the reinterpretation of what he said and ranted about it.

@erlendur I'm guessing this is ultimately for hot fixes during server intensive episodes?

Congratulations, you just linked a devpost from 2010. I do not stand corrected in criticising the use of only the quote above to mean something it did not explicitly mean.

I prefer having a downtime to not having one, even if it wasn't necessary.

I reset my router at home every 24 hours for the same reason.

Daily down time is so short now a days, does anyone really care about it?

it can be exploited...
say you are in a sieged and bubbled pos with a valuable ship..
disconnect from there then a few seconds before next downtime reconnect and be disconnected after a few seconds by the downtime but you will still be in warp, so the next time you log in your ship will be way outside of the sieged pos, free to go wherever you want...
Not very much point to siege POSes to get loots and kill trapped ships while downtime is around..

Weren't you meant to be quitting and never coming back? I seem to remember a giant threadought in which you had a hissy fit and said you would be quitting eve for good. lol

One presumes that it would only work with server only patches and client patches would have a specific downtime for them allocated.
A daily downtime is a good idea in my books though as it allows for everyone to breathe, and stops week long tidi battles melting hardware also by putting a max time limit on fights.
