I've posted a new patch that really works. Some testing would be great.

The patch could be found here:

It even comes with a 6 page document explaining the patch. Very nice.

It's 7 pages already.

Bad news though. I am not going to contribute an actual fix to the bug. I will write a test which shows the problem in wine though and there's hope it will be fixed.

Long story:

The code I wrote is actually better then what Windows have and tests that I created to show that my patch is needed are failing on Windows. So I was back at the point of guessing how things on Windows actually work and that's where I went a bit over the top - I've tried to reverse engineer the actual crypt32 in Windows. All I did was to look at memory where HCERTSTORE (an opaque pointer) points and found some special things in that temporary store.

The problem is that kind of reverse engineering could be considered illegal and any patch based on that should not be committed to wine project. So the maintainer of wine's crypt32 asked me to not submit a new patch. He did ask me to write a test though and I hope he will come with some solution which will not look like "stolen MS code".

This doesn't mean I'm banned from winehq though. I might look into other bugs affecting Eve under wine. But I'll be careful to not peek into forbidden data from now on.

Open your eyes. And awaken.

Please GM, sticky that... so it will not get lost under the stack of threads ;)
