Jita local is useless. Its nothing but a scam forum. Not only that, the fact that we are forced into it is bad for people with slow internet or computers that are struggling. I dont want my already lagging behind internet connection to have to be any part of the massive flood of uselessness that is jita local chat.

Where will the scammers go then? I really dunno. Its likely that as soon as you do that, you will have to follow suit with Amarr local and Hek and Dodixie.. etc etc.. cuz the a$$holes with just go somewhere else that they can find a large crowd.

I agree that conning people is a realistic part of the game, but allowing them to further chug the slowest system in the game is pushing it. Something should be done and I am all ears as to realistic ideas. Don't bother suggesting that scammers should be perma chat-banned entirely, or something to that extreme, it wont happen. However, people who are using macros and posting exactly every X seconds within a deviation that can be accredited to latency, should be perma banned on all characters on their accounts from writing anything in a system with more than 50 people in it, or something along those lines. If you have the energy to sit there and push your scam and waste your time then, by all means, waste your time as you see fit. I do not however think that the vast sea of macro spammers in jita should even be remotely tolerated.

If none of the above then AT LEAST make some jita local chat moderator gm's who do nothing but keep an eye out for macros and scams that go against EULA.

Another idea: give the scammers and legit sellers another outlet. Some kind of thing that they only need to setup once and that people can still see. An advert section in station that broadcasts peoples ads to every station in system and that people can look at if they want.

I think the above idea is the most important and feasible part of this post. Make them another outlet that people will still look at for their own shopping interests, but that arent forced to load. Then disallow local selling. This would reduce both client load and server load.

Anyone who doesn't want to see Jita Local can simply minimize their Local window before going into the system. I think implementing an arbitrary removal of a chat channel would be very much the wrong thing to do.

More importantly than my desire to see local chat used for something else I think the removal of constant linking items will reduce server load which is something CCP is interested in I bet. That and I'd really like the opportunity to actually talk with that many people in one system. Struggling to add hundreds of people to your block list when they constantly keep popping up is too much of a disincentive. Also, am I supposed to have to look at each and every one to make sure Im not blocking a legit seller? or should I be excluded from the opportunity to take part in the buying/selling if I simply want to actually chat in local? (due to having to block everyone trying to sell something in order just to be able to read anything)

The advertisement system seems foolproof to me. Im interestd in hearing how it wouldnt work. Make a tab, right along side guests etc and people put in ads. The draw to look at them is still there because people will try to make special deals and sales through these, as well as scams.

Does it d/l and cache the chat even if you dont look at it? I believe once you click on it once it starts updating.
