Its that time where I can almost fly an orca!! Yay me! :) But my biggest dilemma is find a fit to go high sec ice mining with that won't be a target for other players and won't get destroyed if even in .5 sec but ALSO requiring relatively low skills. If anyone is able to help me out with a fit that would work for this situation please let me know :)

Orca This post was before they introduced the Hull rigs, it's better with those instead of the shield extender rigs.

Hull rigs, DC and bulkheads in lows, mediums with shield hardeners + invulns and highs with 3 mining boosts or 2 boosts + tractor beam. All t2 will give you an orca with 400k+ ehp that is not profitable to gank. That doesn't mean it's gankproof if somebody just wants to explode it for lulz.

Oh and there's no such thing as low skills when we are talking about serious mining boosting orca. T2 links + foreman mindlink or GTFO.

Okay will probably do this. I was deciding weather to keep it docked until I can fit good stuff on it but aslong as it can tank well and be my ore hauler I'm not to to worried about the ****** boosts it would give off until I can do better stuff. Thank you for your input :)

You only need two mining links. Put the shield resist link in the third.

Hull rigs and bulkheads in lows with a dmg control II unit. With that setup even with T1 rigs you will be ok. Unless you are hauling plex (shouldn't be anyways) you are not likely to become a target of a gank. As the old saying goes only fly what you can afford to lose or in this case don't haul what you cant afford to lose.

Tanking an orca is pretty easy.
Fit a DCU II + new hull rigs.

done.

I heard their a rather flimsy waste of 10m ISK. Better to spend that money fitting a reliable tank.

A little trust goes a long way. The less you use, the further you'll go.

You need the third link: capacitor reduction. [Cycle reduction and laser range being the other two.]

Mining Barges & Exhumers had their yield bonus removed, and replaced with a cycle reduction bonus. This causes a great deal of capacitor usage.

Now add on top of that the mining link to reduce cycle time (which the capacitor link is designed to counter for neutral capacitor usage).

Without the capacitor link, a mining ship getting boosts is very hard hit in the capacitor department.

Yeah, smearing your ship with a thin paste of bullsh*t will only keep the literates away.

fit cheap. nobody cares.

fit fancy. you are a flying pinata

in all honesty. its for boosting and hauling.

Strap some ECM drones and a shield tank on. done. No deadspace. faction or officer mods. you are good

odd - I don't have a problem at all with my barges and cap use ... granted I can't cycle the lasers in quick succession ... but then again, I usually care less about "peak efficiency" and more about "everything else" (dscan, local, etc.) so ...

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Fly smart enough, and paranoid enough, and no one can touch you.

How paranoid you have to be depends on the system you choose, and how much traffic it receives.

Keep your eyes glued to local, check sec statuses of any new arrivals, and for Amarr's sake, stay aligned. The Orca warps slowly enough without it having to turn first.

It's a juicy ship, no getting around that, and there are tons of gankers, New Order and otherwise, who would like nothing more than to harvest tears. So if you ARE ganked, don't give them the satisfaction of a reply. A simple 'gf' is all you need.

Earlier today, the Dixon Mining Guild and the Butz Manufacturing Corporation formed a coalition.

It's hard to tell if there is a light at the end of the tunnel for the Dixon-Butz Alliance.

I'd start by snagging a copy of pyfa or EFT and messing around with your fit on paper.

Your goal should be to get a decent level of EHP while still maintaining the utility you want. #ProTip: Amazing things can be done with a damage control and bulkheads. The advantage of using tools like PyFa or EFT is that you don't have to actually own the modules or spend a single ISK, you can toy around with it a bit and see what you can do.

All of this being said, of course - you should also invest in a proper mining permit assuming you are going to operate in New Order space (currently known as High-Sec) :)
