Bit of a noob question, but is the vexor idea to take down bigger targets? If so, how big could you go on a gate? I'm taking out standard Indys on a gate in .6 in a catalyst with no problems so far. Of course if I can down bigger game I'm interested :) .

You are killing autopiloting haulers. Cruisers are used for the indys that are warping to zero, they are caught on the in-gate while they align to the out-gate and are disrupted so that they can be killed before they warp off(but yes, you also get more damage and can take out targets with more HPs than you can with a Catalyst).

Although I have killed many juicy autopiloting indys, generally the juiciest are the ones that warp to zero.

Also, your cat fit could use work, check out my destroyer losses for a fit that is better suited to ganking while under gate gun fire, DPS is considerably less but you will get off more volleys for a net gain in applied damage.

One is more than sufficient in most cases.

Ganking with a vexor seems to be quite a bad idea. Last week a guy tried to gank my trading alt in his brand new iteron mark V. He was flying a vexor. It didn't end well. I escaped and ran away before he could do anything. I ended up selling a kill right for a healthy 20M and sent him a nice eve-mail but he didn't answer me. Sad day.

So let me tell you that the issue with slow ships is that you have to fit a long point, which means that your victim only needs one warp core stab to evade your gank. It's more expensive than some cheaper alternatives and reduces your chances of success significantly. Overall it's a bad idea and you should go back to daycare instead of talking about what adults do. Evil

Confirming it is not possible to fit more than one point on a Vexor, it is a terrible ship for ganking and is rarely usedRoll

If you don't use at least one or two tracking modules then sentries won't hit anything but the elephant in the room. Especially Gardes. Anything with a prop module will kite them effortlessly. You'd have better results with a scramble, an AB and heavy drones.

Gardes have the best tracking of all sentries, and are more than capable of hitting industrials at medium range (10-20km).

You do a lot less overall damage, however, than mixed drones (2 heavy, 2 med, 1 light) and blasters do at point blank range, because a Vexor really struggles to fit railguns.

This is true, however, in the scenario we are discussing blasters and mixed drones will not work, unless of course the target is autopiloting.

Rails are harder to fit than blasters, but they fit just fine.

true but:
Most times a prescanned industrial (like cranes and Impels) hadadditional tank fitted. I have not tried it since the patches. I think they got an hp buff?

Additionally you will have a dedicated position where you drop your gardes...like (just for example) directly behind the area where autopiloting ships are landing....
