EVE is crashing because it is looking for an environment variable named 'COMPUTERNAME'. On Linux, this does not exist, hence the exception which is written to the LogServer.

Manually setting COMPUTERNAME (export COMPUTERNAME='...') resolves the issue and the game starts correctly for me.

Worked for me, too.

You can view the exception yourself by starting the LogServer.exe , creating a new workspace, and then starting EVE.

Confirmed working here. Thanks, Yagnori.

Worked for me too, thanks!

Question though: where is LogServer.exe, I couldn't find it. And why is it necessary to start a new workspace to use it? Is it just to organize things better or there's another reason?

Thank you for the update and work. Does this mean this will also be fixed for Linux? Since it is the Windows client.

For those who have installed through PlayOnLinux:

1) Start PlayOnLinux
2) Choose "Configure" for Eve Online and select "Miscellaneous" tab
3) In the tab find "Command to exec before running the program" enter the text:

export COMPUTERNAME='...'

4) Start Launcher as normal

Good luck! Thanks for initial workaround!

I don't use playonlinux, I tried just export COMPUTERNAME='...' from the ccp folder on the c: drive and now the launcher won't even start, actually, the blue screen that shows that wine has created a virtual desktop doesn't even start. Can someone give me an actual workaround for how to get the game going again? Sorry for being a noob, but I need some actual linux instructions on how to do this. Thanks in advance.

also, the twitter link in the post above me gives me a 404, so that isn't any help either

re-re-edit Ok, I guess it works, I randomly tried to start it just to see, and my blind fumbling must have worked, problem solved, thanks anyway guys.

Confirming the 2nd patch today cleared up the problem.

I have a fruit cup and I'm not afraid to use it.
