Not your everyday, run-of-the-mill PVE battleship...?

I am an old school type of player. I do not need to have the newest flavor of the month to feel successful. One day of the week, I run a few level four mission in my Dominix. Whereas I find it quite fun, I would not mind a bit of variety in running missions in a different type of battleship. While I could use the Raven, to me it seems everyone uses that ship. I like to be a bit different from the norm. While Drakes were quite popular, I was more a Ferox gunship type of pilot when I was a tad younger.

So any suggestions for a different type of PVE battleship? There is no racial issues since I am quite "educated" in flying all four racial battleship types.

Thanks in advance!

I am older than you. Get a Mach.

Not sure why it matters who is older than who, but that aside the advice that follows is sound.

A Mach is a solid missioning boat that works well in any region. Other BS'es such as the Nightmare and Paladin excel in Amarr space, while to be honest in Gallente space you're probably still better off with a Mach or Vargur than a Kronos (although you could go Vindi if you want to get really pimp).

Some people will undoubtedly chime in and say CNR or Golem, but that's not my cup of tea. Besides, the CNR is a worse mission runner in terms of speed than a well fit and skilled Dominix (yes that's true, and if you disagree you haven't flown both).

If you like to salvage as you go along (which some still do, despite the Noctis) then obviously a marauder is your best bet. In Amarr space, go Paladin; everywhere else, go Vargur if you like turrets or Golem if you like missiles.

I'd recommend Nightmare, Vargur or Machariel.

If Mach, be ready that Mach tank is much lower than Domi tank.

I'd marry my Vargur if I could. Four guns doing the same damage as 8 on a standard BS means faction ammo is the only thing that gets loaded. It's actually dare I say, nimble with an afterburner and throw a couple tractor beams and a cloak on there (when you want to dip out for a smoke) and you're golden. Tank as much or as little as you want, though I'd recommend little since with an AB and tracking + falloff bonuses you can so damn easily dictate incoming DPS via range.

I love that ship something terrible!

If anyone ever looks at you and says,_ "Hold my beer, watch this,"_  you're probably going to want to pay attention.

I haven't flown a Kronos since the patch but they were dependable for missions, never the fotom but dependable none the less.

Im not sure why people hated on it so much as for most missions it had the right range and damage types to go through most missions. If you use the extra hislots for salvager and tractors then 40 km is pretty much where you want to be killing things.

sure it might not be the fastest, but it can be tanked pretty well, and since the patch i expect it will be quite a bit more powerful then many continue to believe.

Its also a plus if you are already skilled in Gallente BS.

Sometimes, you all make me very disappointed.

While the Mach, the CNR, the Tengu, the Rattlesnake and various Marauders all have their strong points, they're very much the norm.

If you're looking to run L4s and are more interested in fun than in maximizing isk/hr, the Typhoon can be surprisingly satisfying.

If you want a balance of fun and AFK ability, a passive shield-tanked Ishtar can handle practically anything in Gallente/Caldari/Minmatar space, at the keyboard or away from it.

Buh? I'm assuming that was supposed to read "turrets".

This, however, seems to be the real right answer:

Since you fly domi now, Typhoon and Armageddon Navy Issue both field full sets of heavy/sentry drones while still relying on other weapons primarily. Gives them a little more range/tracking flexibility compared to turret ships. However, I don't imagine either of them passing up the faction/t2 battleships mentioned above. If all you want is variety though, go Phoon and use turrets, missiles and drones at THE SAME TIME. Whoa. /mindblown

This. With torps, ACs and heavy drones, a Typhoon can easily hit 800 DPS. Over 1000 if you fit for full gank and ignore tank. Actually applying it is where things get interesting!

Yes, I was responding to:

Which I haven't seen at all. In-fact, the tengu is without a doubt more popular than the raven ever was and in the tech1 battleship category I see far more maelstroms than anything else and i'll wager the domi is going to make a stronger showing when hybrid prices come down.

OP sounds like he wants to fly the hipster ship and tbqfh, the raven currently fits the bill the best without going out of one's way to select a ship that's downright bad.

Yeah, turrets not rails. I've had rails on the brain since the update :D

I like variety.

I've flown Dominix, Ishtar, Gila, Drake, Hurricane, Typhoon, Cynabal, Dramiel, and even a Vexor and an Ares in L4s, I plan to add all the other popular L4 ships one day. Some ships are better than others (Ishtar). Some are just a challenge (like the Ares). Some are just plain sexy (Cynabal) and fun to fly.

I used to do all my mission grinding in a dominix. I trained up my amarr and lazer skils and started flying a navy armagedon insted. Its inefficent, a little bit of a liability, and to be honest not very good at mission running. BUT its one damn prity glass cannon, which is exactly what the doctor orderd after flying the dominix for so long.
