PC Freezes when running Eve

Symptoms: I am playing along. I typically have 1 or 2 Eve clients open, chrome, IM client, and Teamspeak. At some point while I'm playing, the sound goes into a loop and the mouse starts moving slugglishly. A few seconds after this, it locks up entirely. No mouse movement, no anything.

Observations:
- This never happens unless Eve is running, and it seems to happen more often when I have 2 clients running.
- This never happened until about Rubicon-ish (I can't remember exactly when it started I've been hoping it goes away)

Can anyone help me diagnose what is wrong?

Hardware: Falcon Mach V (3 years old or so)
Intel i7 950 (3.07 GHz)
12GB RAM
nVidia GeForce GTX 580
Windows 7 SP1, 64-bit.

It feels like the Eve client simply goes into an infinite spin on the CPU, but this is an 8-core processor.

Thanks for any debugging help! I'm starting to disable audio/video features to see if any of them help, but it's slow going when it's sometimes minutes between occurances, sometimes hours.

I've been having the same problem.

In my case, I often can play for hours exploring or mining, and I have no problems, but on rare occasions I get freeze glitches while docked at a station.

When I get this freeze glitch, the game freezes for about 1 or 2 seconds, (mouse doesn't move) and sound kind of stops (glitches) and then the game goes back to normal for about 5-10 seconds before the freeze glitch happens again.

Whenever this happens, I cannot do anything in game really, and exiting doesn't work, I lose the mouse and cannot even click shutdown, I have to hit "Control+Alt+Delete" to go to the Windows Option menu in order to hit tab until the red circle shutdown button is highlighted and then I can hit enter.

I'm sure if I started the task manager I might be able to do a restart that way, but without a mouse, it's quite cumbersome.

I have never had this problem with any other game.

My PC Specs are as follows:

Intel i-5 (4670) Quad Core Processor @ 3.4 Ghz
Windows 7 Home Premium
8 GB of RAM
Nvidia 660 GTX video card

Everything in this PC is practically brand new. I only bought the parts and put this PC together recently.

I also have 2 Hard Drives. a 1 TB Western Digital Red and a Samsung 250 GB SSD (which is where I also have an 8GB Page File and all my games are installed there as well.)

I run EVE in Direct X11 mode with full graphics settings and get between 100-200 frames per second depending on what I am doing in game and what is happening on screen.

I have also cleared my cache and verified the integrity of the files with the EVE repair tool.

Any help solving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Hola!

I had a problem like this earlier last year.

I usually run 2-3 accounts with no problem over 3 screens. But over the course of a month or two, a few windows updates and client updates, things started to go a bit wrong.

I noticed that the client/s would freeze and lock up on undocking/docking, jumping through gates and approaching asteroid/ice belts. The mouse pointer would become sluggish, sound would break up and eventually, it got to the point were it became unplayable.

After several support tickets and sending my system specs in time and time again, the GM's and techs drew a blank. They suggested that it was something running in the background that was interfering with the eve client/s. I had initially closed as much as I could, but still no fix.

Eventually, one GM (I forget his name) directed me to a Game Booster (originally IObit, now Razor I believe), which cuts out and closes all non-essential background programs and tat.

After installing it, I have had no further problems.

I hope this helps some. Smile

I decided to try out your suggestion, and sure enough, I have had no further problems. Whether this will remain to be true or not remains to be seen, but so far it has worked.

Thanks a bunch. ;)

well... it looks like I spoke too soon.... the problem has come back.

I'm starting to think it might have something to do with this tournament thing. Even though I am not watching it, the fact that it is going on must be causing stability with the game.

I've had two instances of this freeze/lockup problem today and there just so happens to be a tournament running again today.

I can't think of anything else that could be causing this issue. :|

I was also recommended in my support ticket to shutdown all other processes (which I didn't do).

What I _did_ try was:

- Turn off anti-aliasing (no effect)
- Turn off sound (no effect)
- Start up the log server debugging (worked like a charm, problem never happened again)

Thus: Something in eve is doing this, and the work-around is to turn off debugging.

I have been running all day today, however, with no log server, and no PC freezes. Perhaps Hyperion has resolved the issue for me.

I don't think turning on a log debugger will solve the problem. All that is is a file that gets generated whenever actions take place, like logging in, and selecting a character, warping... and even when the game crashes it will log it.

This would only be useful to the developers. It wouldn't make much sense that it would solve this problem.

However, I do agree that there is something going on in game that is causing this issue.

As I mentioned in a previous post, this problem returned during the Alliance Tournament. My thoughts are that it is having some sort of an effect on the server stability which in turn is causing these freeze glitches.

I've never had this problem when there was no tournament going on, so it seems like the most likely culprit.
